Guest guest
Hello, I live in South Florida, my wife and I have been living with Autism for the last decade, and in the last few years we have been coming to terms that we also have to deal with Aspergers. Our recently turned 14 year old son seems to be an Aspie, because we were so busy dealing with our younger son's severe autism, we didn't focus too much on many of the asperger signs that our older son was showing. We exhausted all our mental and economical resources dealing with autism, and are just trying to get some kind of social interaction going for our teen son. My Aspie is Neurotypical in most things except sociability. He doesn't have too many interest aside from videogames and movies. He has a good sense of humor but as he says "I can't take a joke" meaning that he misses the subtleties of self depricating humor and mild teasing that may come from same age peers, resulting in awkward situation that sometimes degenerate in bullying. I hope to hear from other families in similar straits and I hope to get some ideas or pointers on how to navigate these rough waters.
