Hi!Doctor explained that OCD is part of AS so he may yes be an aspie. Like with autism, there are several levels of complexity and your son may only have some AS characteristics. Mine had a lot of echolalia, but got over it already by talking a lot to him and he just recently started answering some questions without repeating the last word of the question itself. YAY! My 3 y.o. seemed perfectly normal and was talking fine until he was 2 years, then he suddenly went into self-talk and echolalia. We will very occasionally (like once every few weeks) hear an age-appropriate 5-6 word sentence with correct grammar, otherwise it's mostly echolalia. He's reasonably social with strangers, and other children. He's not rigid, transitions well but has some obsessive behavior as well as vocal/motor tics. Does this sounds like Aspergers - were any of your kids like this at three years of age?

Hello,

Your description seem to be like ASD. Have your pediatrician do the test. There are many interventions, so a good doctor and therapist might help you find the right one that suits your child. Good luck. Take car.

Yes, my ds had echolalia at that age. I would be thinking it's a PDD because of the echolalia. It could be you don't notice some of the other symptoms as much. But at any rate, get a good eval and get him into therapies asap. Echolalia is actually a good sign but it would certainly bother me if he had language prior to that, then lost it. Your doc may want a neurological evaluation done to rule out any problems. My ds did not have language and then lose it, but he did regress with the language he was learning at around age 2. I think it's not uncommon with the syndrome of hyperlexia, but it still meant testing to rule out seizures.
