Guest guest
We go fortnightly and at the moment I am a little frustrated by the lack of things to follow through with at home. BUT I know they are doing lots of work on: ~ anger management and understanding those feelings ~ recognition of feelings in self ~ self esteem type work We also have a case worker who comes to see us fortnightly and I am able to ask her to work on specific things i.e., our goals of: ~ self esteem and confidence ~ telling the truth - i.e., we are having a BIG issue with stealing food at the moment I know she also asks often have you been mean to Dad and Tam??? And this is denied everytime... Not much progress but atleast we have some goals... Hope that helps! From: home2stayandplay <staci444@...>Subject: ( ) Working with a psychologist? Guest guest
WHen she says she hasn't been mean to people, she may not be lying. She may not feel she has been mean or realize it. Guest guest
We don't see psychologists for anything - well, the school psych does the school eval's but that's it. Guest guest
My son started seeing a psychologist/counselor when he was 12 after he threatened suicide. My son goes @ 2x/mo to counseling. The counselor helps my son review things that he is having a tough time with. We open the session with 3 of us then the parent leaves the room to leave them to talk privately. I also will send an email to the counselor if there has been anything major happening at home and/or school. The counselor is a neutral place for my son to air out all his troubles. Plus the counselor has more insight into current teenage mindset than I do! My son has just recently said that he doesn't want to go talk with the counselor anymore because he is " not the type of kid to talk about his problems. " We plan to have him keep seeing the counselor because we feel that my son has already begun to isolate himself too much. We'll take a bit of break with all the holidays coming up but will resume in January. I'm not sure if his desire to stop counseling is a good thing or bad thing. Not too long ago he couldn't wait to discuss his problems with the psychologist! Guest guest
I think it is good your son is going. Now, he may want to stop becuase of his age. My son sees a counselor every other week or sometimes every third week. Like you said it is a Neutral ground. My son likes his counselor and gets along well with him. He too says he doesn't want to go...but does. And, once there is fine. Sometimes we go in for the first 5 min. or so to give him some background information. It is good too because the counselor gets to see how our son acts towards us. I truly believe it is helping him. You need to find the right counselor...one that your child clicks with. Also, it may be good to take a break and then resume later on.
