Guest guest
Hi Pam, That sounds like what we need. Is there a link where I can find similar training in our area (N Cal Bay Area)? April
Guest guest
What is RTI? Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. ( ) teaching social skills update We are in our third week of parent social skill training. I would recommend the training program of RTI. The main skills that there are teaching are dynamic social skills. They said that AS kids do well with social rules, scripts and questioning but lack the skills to adapt to changes and surprises so that they can be good employees and socialize. These are dynamic social skills they are teaching us to model: alternative thinking, critical analysis, good enough thinking, fuzzy logic, what if thinking, reflection, collobrate, co-create, empathize, perspective taking, regulation and repair, goal setting and planning. Everything is done in very small steps and throughout the day. Pam
Guest guest
RDI (oops I wrote rti) is a training program for kids with autism that teaches parents how to teach and model dynamic social skills. http://www.rdiconnect.com/pages/Find-a-Consultant.aspx I have been for years scripting and reheasing places and people we see and met. Now that my daughter is more stable I do feel I can add some training finally to cope with life as it is. Not scripted and static but changing and dynamic. I did manage to find a trainer willing to at first just charge us for the parent training. RDI can be expensive otherwise if you include the child and start video taping interactions. I guess progress may be faster this way. First weeks lesson was to minimize verbal communication and increase non verbal communication. And to start play 20 questions more about all kinds of things. Second week was to frame changes to the normal places we eat out as " fun to change " . So we took small steps to change resturants we have been going to and to cut out the daily trips to the pet store in favor of " fun and different " . And we are working on picking places to go that we both will enjoy. Third week is to address perfectionizing by purposing doing things good enough yet have fun doing it. Being more playful throughout the day. We have so many things to work on chronic disorganization, excessive shopping, social skills etc. But now that her outbursts are better managed working on some of these skills is finally possible. I hope this is of some help. Guest guest
I know what RDI is. I didn't know what RTI was except that the school uses a philosophy known as RtI.
