Guest guest
, We have been using spironolactone (script required) to reduce my 11 year old sons high testosterone level and it works great. We have been using it for a good 6 months. It also reduces inflamation. The only side effect is constipation so we also give oxypowder. --- christine <christine@...> wrote: > Surprise, Surprise- my 8 year old son was just dx > today with precocious > puberty by a mainstream doctor (endocrinologist). > > We have to do blood work and an x-ray of his hand > next. > > Interesting to see what they prescribe for > treatments. > > I mentioned to the doctor ³you know this is common > in kids with autism?² and > she said she knew. > > - in NY > ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Dear , What symptoms made you suspect that he had precocious puberty so that you took him to an endocrinologist? I am slo curious what mainstream medicine thinks you should do to rreat it. --------------- Ezorsezor@... Guest guest
We used Spironolactone for inflammation for about 6 months. There is a possible side effect to watch out for if your child gets a viral GI illness. Their potassium /sodium balance can get really screwed up much faster than normal if they are taking spironolactone and get sick with vomiting. I think its called ketoacidosis or something like that. My son scared the living daylights out of me last summer when he kept puking over and over all night. He looked like he was going to die. I got smart and looked up the package insert and figured it out. Not trying to scare anyone, just think its good to know this in case they get sick. If you google the package insert and info on the med, you should find what I am referring too. Guest guest
Hi, Precocius puberty runs in my family and it was very traumatic for me because it came to early for me. My aspie girl also reached puberty very early, so I started preparing her for this event since she was eight year old.. I also asked the school nurse to talk about it with her. I did not want to put her on any kind of hormones because he has epilepsy and takes medicine for depression. She experienced puberty a few months after her nine birthday. Now she is eleven and some of her friends are also experiencing early puberty also. I am surprised to know that several girls are entering into puberty as early as six years old... ( ) precocious pubertyMy 12 year old Aspie's symptoms began when she was 6 and was diagnosed with precocious puberty. This has been a long challenging road because her aspie diagnosis did not come until she was 10. She took Lupron injections for 3 years to delay the puberty. Now I am faced with my 6 year old entering precocious puberty and I am scared to death!! The last several years have been really hard, and I have no support with my oldest one. She was so smart and so bright and now...well, I'm sure you know. So I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a link between the precocious puberty and the asperger's diagnosis, or has anyone else had any experience with the two together? Thanks for any information/or words of advice you can offer.Cheryl
Guest guest
Perhaps the Magic Foundation can help you. http://www.magicfoundation.org/www/docs/146/ There are many genetic disorders that can cause autism/AS. Our daughter had the opposite issue, she had slow growth and development. The endocronologist ordered a genetic test and it did turn out she had a genetic issue that affected growth and accounted for other health issues. Do any other members of your family have AS or is there a lot of introverted/shy traits in the family. Guest guest
I don't have alot of information on family history. I was adopted and do not know mine and her father other than being a homebody is not anti-social. he has some quirks and is moody (my words LOL) but nothing that ever struck me as odd. We have been divorced for 7 years, so it's been a while... I will check out the magic foundation thanks for the link. When she got diagnosed they wanted to do genetic testing, but I never went through with it because at that time we were getting Lupron shots every 3-4 weeks and I just didn't have the heart to put her through anything else. I got the results back today of my 6 year old's bone age and it is comparable to a child who is 6 years 10 months to 7 years 10 months (she is actually 6 years 5 months), my oldest at this exact age was comparable to a child who is 8 years 10 months, I feel a little better that she is not as advanced, however I am still nervous and cautious at this point. Thanks for the reply, Cheryl > > > > My 12 year old Aspie's symptoms began when she was 6 and was diagnosed with precocious puberty.
