Guest guest
Actually, aside from the precocious puberty dx, the others are all variations of the same thing. AS/HFA could cover all the other things. Kids with AS/HFA will have fine motor problems, dysgraphia being part of that. Many kids with AS/HFA will have problems with sensory processing. Etc. Many kids with AS/HFA suffer from other problems like depression or anxiety that are not a specific part of the autism dx, so they will often get listed in the "alphabet soup" mix to state that they are. If nothing else, the doc's all look like they are in basic agreement with each other as to what they see going on with your dd. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. ( ) Where we are now.... Hello everyone Ok, I am at a stand still. If you can please help me figure out where to go next. My DD has seen three different doctors with three pretty much different sets of diagnosis'. What do I do?? Doctor number 1 in Nov 09 gave a diagnosis of Aspergers/High Functioning Autistm, eczema, and Anxiety Disorder NOS. Doctor number 2 in Jan 10 gave us a diagnosis of ADHD, Anxiety Disorder NOS, and developmental language disorder. Doctor number 3 in March 10 gave us a diagnosis of Anxiety Disorder NOS, developmental motor coordination disorder, dysgraphia, eczema, sensory processing dysregulation, precoucious puberty, sleep impairment, and social struggles. Yes I agree with the anxiety that my DD has. Yes I agree that my daughter has sensory and motor issues which create issues in nearly every aspect of every day. BUT - what do I do next? No two doctors are saying the same thing. I can't get developmental therapy or PSR services until I get some agreement upon her diagnosis'. Please help with any suggestions. Thanks
Guest guest
What type of doctor/specialist was each? That can sometimes explain the variance On 3/29/10, DeGraff <reneendegraff@...> wrote: > Hello everyone > > Ok, I am at a stand still. Guest guest
Are you in the US? If you have one medical doctor that DX Asperger Syndrome I would go with that. The third doctor is ridiculus. The DX of Asperger is an umbrella diagnosis. The treatment team would understand that your child has a wide range of issues. The DX of anxiety NOS is not helpful to you for treatment purposes. Treatment for anxiety disorders are often based on cognitive approaches. But the autistic child is often not open to talking about thoughts, feelings and perspectives. That is why for kids with autistism we talk alot about behavioral therapy to change beahviors. You would not expect an autistic child to be able to just cope with their sensory issues, you would want to make accomodations for the real way they are overloaded. If you need two doctors to DX AS because you live outside the US, I would read up on how the DX of AS is made and work to make your case. I taped recorded social interactions where my daughter was very locked into her interests in spite of gentle encourage to play and I taped her meltdowns over small changes being made at home. Guest guest
Doctor 1 was our family doctor. Doctor 2 was a developmental pediatrician Doctor 3 was a group of doctors (an all day evaluation) Since my original message I have been told that my dd should qualify for DT just off of her sensory issues. Guest guest
oh wow that makes it slightly tougher, #1 and #3 seem to agree somewhat as a lot of #3 could be more easily qualified as just what #1 says, usually they try and go for the least # of diagnosis that explain everything but maybe they were trying to avoid the pdd label quite yet, how old is your dd? However usuallY I would say that the developmental pediatrician is the expert sow ould go with #2. Unless the family doctor has a lot of esperience in development, pdds or some sort of additional training I would not usually use a dx by a famiy doctor. What kind of doctors were #3? what did each do to determine the dx? On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 11:48 PM, DeGraff <reneendegraff@...> wrote: Doctor 1 was our family doctor. Guest guest
What are you trying to do? Get OT from the school? If so, step one is to write a request for a full educational evaluation. Be sure to have a meeting to go over what areas will be assessed to make sure they are looking at the problems you want to have addressed. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Guest guest
Does your state provide IBI therapy? Some states do provide it as part of early intervention? I suggest you contact your local autism support group and connect with people who do ABA programs. They will know the ins and outs in your area. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.
