Guest guest
Keller Convention Center closed January 26, 2002 The Keller Convention Center has been closed for the next couple of weeks to repair damage sustained during the Jan. 4 fire that ripped through the front entrance to the Keller Inn. Although the blaze did not reach the Convention Center, the facility did get severe water damage from the firefighting efforts. Apparently, mold has been discovered in the walls, and new drywall and wallpaper as well as new carpeting will have to be installed in the Convention Center before it reopens. Patty Green, Convention Center director, said the insurance company advised them to close the facility. The closure has canceled the Effingham Area Home Builders Association's Home Builders Show set for next weekend. ine Mette, secretary of the Effingham Area Home Builders Association, said the group is looking at other options and has not decided exactly what it will do regarding the builders show. However, it will not be held next weekend at the Keller Convention Center, she said. Green said she had no comment on the status of the bridal show that was scheduled to take place in mid-February. She did say one convention booked for this weekend, the Gold Wing Road Riders, decided to hold its get-together in the pool building at the Keller Inn rather than cancel the convention. Convention Center staff have temporarily moved to the Keller Oil building. The phone numbers, however, remain the same. ©Effingham Daily News 2002 http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=3099635 & BRD=991 & PAG=461 & dept_id=18 1096 & rfi=
