I have an IEP, they are arguing semantics. My son has ICR for math and they are arguing that the law does not require specific goals to be written because it is in class resource. The special ed teacher refuses to make modifications to the curriculum. She said modifications only mean allowing more time and reducing the number of problems he has to do nothing else. This is clearly not true. From what I can tell they simply do not know how to modify. We are considering working with Anita Breslin to help in this capacity because the teacher, special ed teacher and case manager refuse to listen. We will be meeting with the head of special services.

Has anyone worked with Anita Breslin? Any thoughts?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

NJASK is a state test given at various grades in NJ. I am quessing all states have some sort of testing like ths. All schools in NJ follow a state curriulum per grade. Now howthat is taught, the level of detail, the books, homework CANALL BE INDIVIDUALIZED in an IEP. My daughter has an IEP and is in a specical needs school. The level of detail is very different than the public school, she has no HW at the time due to high anxiety, the way it istaught is very different from public school.Your district is saying we want to teach to our plans. Unlessyou get an IEP in place that is all they are reguired to do.Good luck,Pam >> Morning,> > I

was wondering whether anyone knew the specifics of the NJASK and how children that are classified (my son has Aspergers) are affected by this test. In addition is a district's funding dependent on these scores? I ask because we have tried to get his curriculum modified and the response we seem to be getting is that he has to learn the material because it is on the NJASK. I realize that he must take the NJASK but I was wondering what exactly is done with his score and if a school is penalized if he is not "proficient" .> > Thanks.>

The best thing you can do in these situations is ask to see this in

writing. They might be flippant and say, " It's in the regs " or

something but you will press them - exactly where does it say that you

can't...won't...don't have to...Get everything in writing.

Yup! You are 100% correct. I remember being told that I have to go through guidance to speak to a teacher....was told it was in the handbook, (bilaws). Well, I looked and looked and could not find it. So, I asked...can you tell me where exactly it says that....Guess what...it didn't. And, I bet most parents just think they are being told the truth...so if they say it is the law or school policy...look it up...check it out...I did and found it wasn't!!!
