Guest guest
Well, similiar to what happened with bailey, they can't just take a autism dx as the doctor didn't have an autism rating scale documented. So we are having to do a tons more evals, imho we'll be lucky to get it done by the end of the year. She needs all her evals from last year redone b/c its been just over a year so she has to have her academic eval repeated plus vision, hearing, etc. They also have to do the autism ratings scales, behavior rating scales (despite us and the teachers doing those back in november), etc which will include about 2 more hrs of me up at the school in questionares and paperwork. And apparantely she needs 3 seperate observations. They decided it would be better to do 3 different people so the psychologist and resource teacher are going to do it and it was suggested (why this wasn't common sense I don't know) that the 3rd be the district autism specialist. Also the speech therapist will do a full eval including receptive, expressive, articulation and pragmatic. I'd be worried about her missing so much class but she is not doing work anyway so guess it doesn't matter. Last week alone she was in the office 3 times and in the hall once (hrs at a time), 2 days didn't do any work at all, and 2 times I had to pick her up b/c she wouldn't get on the bus. She actually was brought in during the meeting but they didn't want to stop the mtg. So that was going to be it but the teachers were like no, what about standardized testing next week. So, in the meantime a behavior plan will be started on. A 504 will be put into place to get her small group testing, she will start a social skills group twice a week and they will try gum to keep her on task. They did say that once she has an iep they can bring in the ot for some sensory things as well. I also asked the biggest question, what if she doesn't qualify as autism, they still said she will get an iep for ohi. So that eases my worries that shed be stuck with only a 504. Also the psychologist did say she had 4 other kids waiting to be evaluated but considering all the classroom problems they would try and get her done 1st. But still, the psychologist is p/t (4 mornings a week) at our school so that could still take forever imho. Strangely enough she is not having very many issues in eagles (gifted class). But the eagles teacher has many advantages. 1st she is just enrichment so not a lot of rote (sp) learning. 2nd she has only 13 students, 3rd she has 12 computers so not a lot of writing required as they can do typing, it is also only 1 day a0week so maybe a novelty? And the eagles teacher is a very experienced teacher with an older child with adhd at home. Whereas beccas math/science teacher is her 1st year permanant position and has no kids (she is passing those classes), her ss/english only has 8 yrs experience and only has a toddler at home. Oh and we talked about manipulative vs issues as they are in agreement with me, that is such a grey area its hard to know and you don't want to encourage the 1st at all (I was worried no consequences for all this at school was encouraging her). And lastly I got a gauranteed chaperone position on every field trip, even the 1 that they don't usually have chapperones (other than the teachers) for. Usually the parents have to take turns. So in addition to my older dds 2 field trips dh and I are chapperoning I now will be planning to attend 4 more (3 for 4th grade and 1 for eagles) in case 1) she refuses to get on the bus or melts down at the even and 2) to make sure she doesn't wander off -- Sent from my mobile device -mommy to Emma, Becca, , and Girl Scout cookies are coming!
