Guest guest
Finkelstein: <On the whole sleeping subject, I, too, have been having trouble both falling and staying asleep after heavy evening workouts. I started taking melotonin, but have been feeling very odd in the mornings afterward. Lethargic, puffy-eyed, weak. Does anyone know of deleterious effects of taking melotonin? Thanks. > This is purely anecdotal, but I found similar problems with melatonin if the dose was too high, or if I was woken up prematurely. I eventually settled at 0.5mg, which seemed to be better i.t.o. side effects. That, and the price, convinced me to give chamomile tea a try. Similar results, and, in my case, NO side effects. Guest guest
Has anybody every had their child have any negative side effects as a result of taking melatonin? One of the side effects is seizures and that terrifies me. We are considering starting him on a small dose at bedtime but the thought of him having seizures as a result concerns us a great deal.. Any insight would be very helpful.. thank you.
Guest guest
No negative effects from my daughter. Super positive results... fell asleep MUCH faster (it helped her shut off her brain for sleep I think) and she slept better. Not a miracle supplement but man, that extra time in the evening to recover from the day and better nights sleep was a Godsend. Guest guest
My son has been taking from 1/2 up to a full tablet of 3mg of melatonin for about 2 years now. I have never heard of that being a side effect and it was actually recommended to us by the developmental pediatrician that diagnosed his Asperger's. It helps to relax him and we no longer hear "but I can't shut off my brain" at bedtime. Occassionaly, I cut the dose because he sometimes gets nightmares that I think might be linked to a buildup or something. Cutting the does a bit does the trick. I hope this helps. Guest guest
We have been using melatonin for about a week now with good results thankfully. Dd had always been a great, sleeps a lot child but the past month had been having trouble falling asleep and waking several times a night. Now neither is an issue. She is sensitive to meds, cant take any stimulants b/c they effect mood. Gets opposite (opposite of the typical sleepiness) reactions to meds like dramamine, benedryl and even atarax. Anestethia (sp?) doesnt work well for her and she comes out of it violently. And she had seizures from reglan. Excessive sleeppiness with straterra and intuniv. Excess weight gain with intuniv. Etc. So definitly prone to weird or opposite or rare side effects but has had no issues with melatonin On 8/3/10, Roxanna <MadIdeas@...> wrote: > I hadn't heard that melatonin caused seizures. Guest guest
yes our doctor told us if you are already having siezures it can increase them. I do not think they create siezures though. You can also give tryptophan as a liquid and that has great sleep benifits too. From: Roxanna <MadIdeas@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Melatonin side effects Date: Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 7:41 AM I hadn't heard that melatonin caused seizures. Guest guest
On the Melatonin, we've been using it with our gdaughter now for almost a year and so far we've not seen any side effects. She get 5 grams about 1 1/2 before bedtime and she's ready to relax and sleep by 8:30pm. Before that it was rough. She just couldn't seem to be able to relax and would lay for a long time and sometimes chat and play and finally ... finally fall asleep because I would lay with her to make sure she wasn't up playing. Even when she was as young as 18 months old her mom would put her in the crib with a dvd playing because she had such a hard time going to sleep. I stopped doing the dvd's and would sit in the room next to her crib which was a hard adjustment for her but she fought it all the way and just was so restless. When we tried the melatonin we started with .5 gram and even at that amount we saw a big improvement. Hope for the best for you and your young one. It has been a blessing for us. Guest guest
My 17 yr old has been taking 6 mg of Melatonin for about 4 years now and it usually works great. Sometimes it doesn't work but usually if he puts a drop of lavendar essential oil on his chest it will help. He still has times where he's up all night but it's much better than being up until midnight each night. I haven't noticed any side effects with him.
