Guest guest
There is no Federal Law Mold legislation. All of our efforts were defeated by insurance companies and Congressman Conyers of Michigan and other Senators. What I would do is get an Air Quality inspection by a reputable firm. We used Assured Air Quality of Texas but I think they were bought by somebody else. I'll see if I can find some peoples e-mails that are still in the business and pass them along. You also need to be tested for Mold exposure. We used Dr. Eckardt Johanning of Albany NY who tested us for mold and our immune system. I'm sure he could recommend somebody in your area. As far as your home, you need to have an inspection for Toxic Mold. There are many different types and some are very, very dangerous. Inspections are very costly. After you have a Doctor check you, and if you have been infected by Toxic Mold, you need to make a decision. If you go forward you might have to leave your home and your belongings. This is what we did and it costs us over 600 thousand dollars. Selling your home to another family is something you have to decide. We could not because if another family got sick we would be liable. If you are diagnosed with Toxic Mold exposure and go forward, contact your local, county and state health officers and home inspectors. Under Law they are required to inspect and report their findings. In Massachusetts they ignored the Law to cover-up for the open corruption between the builders, banks, inspectors and politicians. Many were taking bribes. You can also contact the media but many don't want to hear about stories like ours especially during a housing crisis. What ever you decide, let us know. We will Pray for You and your family. If you go forward, we will try and find some resources for your to go to. The first step in the process is to go to private doctors for mold exposure followed by having your home inspected by a private firm. Then you must decide based upon the results. I am so sorry for what your family has gone through. I was wondering if your situation has improved or if there was legislation passed. You see, I believe my and my children's health are being affected by mold in our home. In our case, our home is over 100 years old and was renovated. I don't know if the mold was there previously, or if it became affected during the renovation. We purchased the house about 5 years ago in November 2005. We believe the previous owners knew full well of the problem because during each viewing of the house, there was always an electronic air freshener going. We had a building inspection, but there was no mention of mold. We first noticed the odor the first evening we were in the house coming from a bathtub drain in the house's main bathroom. We suspected it was faulty plumbing, but it's nearly impossible to get to as it's in a really tight crawlspace. Since then, I believe there's more to the problem and that the whole basement is affected. We don't know what to do. Do we simply move out and use an air freshener and pass it on to someone else and hope it sells? Morally, that doesn't seem right, so here we sit. Is there any help from the government now for mold abatement? I have always had mild asthma, but it is getting worse. My children have developed asthma and they come home with every bug going around. I believe it's compromising their immune systems. Can you give us any advice at all?
