Guest guest
1} The only remedy I know for the cramped calves and feet I know of aside from a good hand rub from your partner after a nice hot soak in a hot foot bath with either water or paraffin bath if you have one. 2. Quinine in quinine water somehow helps dramatically. Check with your neighborhood pharmacist and see if there is a natural quinine capsule you can take daily- and of course you need to drink eight glasses of fluid all day in order to wash out the lactic acid that had built up in your muscles (this was causing the muscle spasms} 3. You can go for straight-away pharmacological intervention and take Flexeril or any of the others like Robaxin and even Valium-- but in the end you will have a higher success rate with the exercise. Ps put warm heat on the cramping spots before the massage and put it back on for 20 minutes. After a few sessions of this physical therapy you should be as good as new. In CT you must see a doc and get a prescription for PT, but in some states do not require it. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones who do not require the internist checking you out first (usually a $200-550 proposition around here@@ Take care and God Bless, group founder
Guest guest
I have had severe leg cramps for years (as did my mother before me - I can remember hearing her stomp around the bedroom at night). I also have cramps in other places that are too weird to mention. The only thing that works for me is taking Quinine tablets at night. You can't get them any longer over the counter, must have a prescription. They work. Yes, the warm soaks and paraffin baths work, but who wants to do that at 2 a.m.? Guest guest
I have a prescription (10meq) for potassium and I find that it is very helpful when I have muscle cramps in my legs and or thighs. It is a timed release capsule and to get immediate relief I open the capsule and mix it carefully in applesauce. I swallow it without chewing. Re: quinine - I thought I recently read that quinine can bring on psoriasis. A few years back I had taken a quinine prescription for leg cramps and I wound up with a bad case of psoriasis on my head. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. Peggy B (back in NY).

Also, try to eliminate spinach, beets, rhubarb (no problem there!), and limit sweet potatoes, berries, nuts (including peanut butter! oh no!), tea, and chocolate (ACK!!!!) if you have stones.
