Guest guest
I feel like I am the only person who understands my child...no help from schools...he has New diagnosis of PPD NOS and ADHD, anxiety also interfears. Last 5 years of his life no meds worked for him I now know why. I feel Middle school is going to be too much...he doesn't understand social cues and kids take advantage and make fun. He is sad a lot. He is now 11 years old. I am very scared for him....Tammy

Guest guest
You're not alone...we are here. I know how you feel though...cause I feel like that too at times. I think it goes with our "job". My son is 14 and was dx with ADHD in 3rd grade and then PDD NOS at the beginning of 6th....by the middle of 6th grade it was changed to AS. He is on Adderall XR (but sometimes takes a break in the summer), he is also on Xanax when he needs it for Anxiety. At night he takes a small dose of Geodon for anger and it helps him sleep too! At school, does your child have an IEP? A case manager? What type of classes is he in? Can he have a Paraprofessional (aide) with him...even if it is for only part of the day? I know 6th grade can be very difficult...children can be so mean at this stage of life...you might want to consider an Aide for a year to get him thru. Post any time...I am sure there are others with thoughts too! I am planning to observe her class in session.... If this year does not work out for her I will enroll her in private school... The idea of an Aide is very good... Guest guest
I laughed when I saw this. My 20 yo son has taken Abilify for several years but has gained a lot of weight, has elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, and metabolic syndrome which could lead to diabetes. So, recently the doctor took him off the Abilify and switched him to Intuniv. He has lost 35 pounds in the last 2 months or so which is great. But, he has been having some issues with non-stop talking – have you ever seen the T-shirt that says, “Slap me!  I am talking and I can’t shut up.â€Â That is my son. Anyway, the doctor called yesterday to talk to me about this and somewhere in the conversation he got the idea that I said I needed medication. We both started laughing and I told him that either we needed to do some adjusting of my son’s meds or I was going to have to be medicated. Guest guest
lol, . When my ds was young, before we had a clue what was going wrong, I just knew I needed help. I made a long list of the problems and I told my dh that either the doc was giving my ds medication or he was giving me medication. One of us was going to be medicated. lol. Well, turned out he sent us for an evaluation and the rest is history. But this reminded me of that time way back when. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Guest guest
I understand how you feel too! 6th grade can be scary. My son isolated himself from 3rd grade on up , he had difficulty with socialization & making friends. One of the things I do remember about middle school were how helpful the aides were to him. He especially required a lot of one on one attention. AS kids do better w/one on one attention at least it helped w/my son. He is now starting his senior year and is making great strides in his socialization skills. He now has 3 friends that he has been seeing regularly this summer.
