Guest guest
From my son's teacher last night: " Max is not always aware of his choices and how it impacts situations and can make things more difficult for him. Following directions can be difficult for him at certain points throughout the day. " This was after an incident where he was late coming down from his class and the bus was waiting for him ... He was nasty to the matron when she questioned him about where he was since she was worried. I had to contact the teacher regarding why he was alone coming down and working with him on how to address the matron, as well. His teacher said that Max insists he can get himself together at the end of the day and get out of the class in due time - and he can't. I guess they were letting him try on this particular day and he was late. This was the teacher's reply to my question about whether this is just an end of day occurrence or something more often. Anyway - I'm just wondering what we can do to help him... I've asked the school to let me know as well. He just started at a wonderful school for special needs kids and most of the kids are adhd or aspergers so I know they have a lot of experience with this .. which is why, I think, the teacher was able to word it so well. He's in 4th grade and I've never before had a teacher sum it up so succinctly before. I look forward to your suggestions and how we can help him or if this is just par for the course and I should just leave it in the school's hands. Guest guest
I would stay involved, but if this is a special school, ask them what they are planning to do to help him with this. Does he have an IEP? It could be a goal on there. I agree that she worded it well. She knows this is due to his Asperger's, right? Understanding consequences for behavior is extremely hard for Aspies. Leah
