What's the deal with Message #4? Please try and find out who did this and

whatever can be done to them legally, let it be done. How dare they come

into our group with this filth.

You know the IDEA only requires 4 pages of paperwork it is the STATES that

add pages and pages, then the districts turn around and do more! Washington

state adds 10 pages to the original 4, our district adds 2 more which is

pretty good, one of the local districts adds 20 pages! So their paper work

is 30 some odd pages long. THe problem isn't with IDEA it is with the STATES

and the DISTRICTS. And it is very burdensome for teachers. We need

protection, but we need to figure out how to protect our kids and cut out the

extra paperwork.

Ohhhh I totally agree :) maybe someone needs a class on Excel or

something to organize their data. I know since hubby taught me how to use

some of my window programs I have cut back on the paperwork here :) I am

going to set up a form for data collecting for the sped teacher. She saw one

I use with Sara and she was so impressed. Now I need her to remind me in Aug

which one she liked lol

Also the IEP meeting thing, maybe and just maybe meetings should be scheduled

after school, so they wouldn't interfere with the kids and the day schedule

:) oooh I know some would holler BUT if they knew this was in their job

description then hey why not.

In our district, the teachers contract says that they can leave as soon as

the kids do. Therefore, at 3:10 as the teachers walk the kids out to the

buses, the carry their bags and often their cars are out of the parking lot

before the buses even leave.

The most they will do is schedule the IEP's for 8 am and then you only have

until 8:45 when the teachers have to go to the classrooms for the kids.

When we have our IEP's they schedule subs for the teacher and for the aide on

that day, knowing that they will last for hours.

All of our faculty meetings take place before school at 8:00 am. That is the

earliest any teacher is required to be there. Otherwise, they have a

" Teachers Inservice Day " and the kids aren't there just staff.

Oh, also, we now have 1/2 days every Friday where the staff are supposed to

be having trainings and meetings, but often there is not alot accomplished.

You would think that THAT would be a good day for IEPs but they are not

allowed to schedule them.

When I point out that they are supposed to be able to schedule the IEP's

around our schedule and it's not always convenient for us to drop all for

meetings, they inform us that they can schedule the meetings but that the

teachers don't have to attend after school.

This is district policy.

HI :)

Here our meetings can really be at any time. Sara's for the past 3 years

start at 1pm and then go on till sometimes 6pm. Meetings I call or they call

lol during the year for keeping touch etc..... happen during the day too,

they usually don't last 1.5 hours and the Reg Ed teacher usually stays only

minutes :( we pull the info we need out of her then we excuse her.

We are very lucky that the Sped dept. at Sara's school has ahhhhhhh 8 aides,

all qualified to teach our kids in the sped room, escorting kids, attending

Reg Ed classes with the kids who have it on their IEP (Sara). Our sped

teacher has them all trained to do whatever she does.

Kathy mom to Sara 10 .......Sara's sped teacher can be found in her class, up

until 8 or 9pm and often. Why she's not teaching summer school this year

heehee

In the district where I work, the teacher's contracts say that they must be

available for any meetings that require extra time. They agree to do this when

they sign it. Our principal is really bad about having long faculty meetings

after school hours. I bet none of those teachers who take their bags to the

buses would mess with her:)) We met after school for 's IEP. I made it

clear that I could only take off a couple of hours to meet and they accomodated

me. It was a long meeting. We're also going to have to meet again soon.

Here the teachers are on their own time either before or after school or

during a prep and lunch. Since I too am a teacher, most teachers have

accomodated me to meet me at a convenient time. Most meetings are after

school because the morning is too hectic.

According to our contract they can be scheduled during school hours and the

parent is asked to attend at that time, but most teachers than not are

willing to do it on their own time to accomodate the parents.

My friend is a sp ed teacher, I have babysat for her children late many

days...and occassionally for an early evening meeting when she was trying to

accomodate a parent. She tries to make them during the school hours as much

as possible but in many cases it just isn't feasible. I think that parents

SHOULD try hard to make it during the day, but the fact is, some just can't,

and in that case the teachers should be more accomodating. They would be if

it were their children. LOL. Actually, many of the teachers that teach at

our school have their children in private schools.....doesn't THAT tell you

something?

Subject: REGULAR V SPECIAL NEED CLASSES

I have a friend who has a high functioning autistic son. Last school

year he was split up between some regular classes and some special

needs classes...when he returned to special needs classes he would

act up...so they took him out of regular classes and had him full

time in special needs....(acting up by talking when not suppose

to)...I read somewhere and I cannot find it that under the special

needs law a child such as this could be in regular classes with an

aide to assist him... if that is true then this boy could be in all

regular classes with the help of the aide....I'd appreciate any input

any of you might have pertaining to this subject and if you know the

particular section that he could site I would appreciate it....and I

thank you in advance for any help you offer....
