Guest guest
Thanks Chelle..I have a great team working with and not very happy with the communication with the school. The IEP is coming up...although I haven't been contacted with a date. Because of s outbursts in the past it had become nessecary to have home health care aids here for my safety and his too if I were to fall on him or something during a violent outbursts. Since the behaviorist has put us on a behavior plan most all of his negative behaviors are gone..I am very strict on enforcing the plan. I recently started kid sitting some typical children and have been feeling like the aids are raising my son.. he just doesn't respond the same way to me as he does them. Bout the only thing I do is advocate for him make him breakfast give him meds and tuck him in with a story at night. Just feeling kinda low today. ( ) Re: My Aspie is Mildly retarded Your welcome. I have been on this path for what seems like forever sometimes and others just a few seconds. If you are not happy with the school or his teacher, request an emergency IEP. They don't tell you that you can have as many as needed to resolve the issues. In 5th grade, when they tried to tell me that Lucas was going to need to be held back, we had 5 IEP's. We ended up pulling him out of the main stream educational setting and putting him in an SDC class (Special Day Class). That was one of the hardest choices I ever made, but he finished 5th grade and went on to 6th. In 6th grade, due to the appropriate levels of support, he was on Student Counsel, he got great grades and he learned to be happier in his own skin. He is now in 8th grade, still mostly in an SDC setting, but he is pulling a 3.6 GPA...this is the child who tested at an IQ of 79. Fight for your child, and love them where they are at. Sounds like your doing all you can! We are all here for you. That is why we have this group. Chelle > > > > > > I don't post too much because I get easily overwhelmed by all the different postings...I do read them and I have never noticed but is there anyone out there that has a child with Aspergers that is mildly retarded. My son is 13 and makes the honor roll...but can't write or tie his shoes because of low muscle tone. I am a single parent without shared parenting and because of violent behaviors in the past it became a neccesity to have home health care aids in everyday. His negative behaviors have all but stopped and he is a sweetheart and I believe him to have a photogenic memory.. I just don't know what the future holds and I really don't know what to do or any other services I can get to help him. I love this kid more than anything in this world but he is not very motivated when it comes to self care and his fixation is animals.... I wonder if he will ever be able to take care of himself on his own...or should I change my perspective? I am so concerned th at he will never have a normal life drive a car have friends...or a girlfriend. Maybe these things are just prayables? Is there anyone out there that shares this experience? > > > > > > Marcia > > > > > >
Guest guest
Marcia, I was having one of those kind of days too. My son seems to only interact with me when he wants something or in response to me telling him to do something. Although he is not abusive with me, he IS often very negative and disrespectful. He adores his Dad even though he is the one that gets onto him the most. It is frustrating. I usually don't get hurt by some of the things he says anymore. I just correct him and move on. BUT...ten there are days like this....:-{ ne From: marcial7777@... <marcial7777@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Re: My Aspie is Mildly retarded Chelle Date: Friday, March 18, 2011, 3:57 PM Thanks Chelle..I have a great team working with and not very happy with the communication with the school. Guest guest
ne I don't know how I missed this...I know I felt the same way I think it is because we are around them all day..like I went to help the neighbor with her ailing mother for a few hours on Friday night and was looking out the windows and telling the aid I miss mommie and such. It made me realize he really does love me and cares more than just the things he perseverates on..I'm sure yours does too. ( ) Re: My Aspie is Mildly retarded Your welcome. Guest guest
Marcia, That is so sweet to hear your son said those things. You are right, there are those rare moments of affection or love that make all the difference. I remember one day not too long ago my son baked me a cake (his Dad was home to make sure he didn't burn down the house) and wrote "I love you Mom" on it with iceing. I was so excited I took a picture of it and put it on my facebook! Then another time, he used pretzel pieces to spell out "I love you Mom" on the kitchen counter. Again I had to put it on my facebook. :-)ne From: marcial7777@... <marcial7777@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Re: My Aspie is Mildly retarded Chelle Date: Friday, March 18, 2011, 3:57 PM Thanks Chelle..I have a great team working with and not very happy with the communication with the school. Guest guest
ne...gotta love our Aspies..and yes I'm a big facebooker too...although very few of my friends know how to act or say much about ..ESPECIALLY the church people on there. You would think being proclaimed Christians they would open up there hearts to my son and me for that matter but they chose to talk about organic foods and knitting. I'm finding out from Facebook who my real friends are and the better Christians that I know don't even go to church.. Marcia ( ) Re: My Aspie is Mildly retarded Your welcome.
