EPA Hosts National School Symposium

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host its 3rd Annual

Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools National Symposium on August 8-10,

2002, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. Building on the success

of the past two years, the Symposium will bring together school board

officials, administrators, school nurses, teachers, facility managers,

school and health association members, parents, and others to discuss good

indoor air quality in our nation's schools. Attendees will learn about

resources and materials, including EPA's Indoor Air Quality Tools for

Schools (IAQ TfS) Kit and Program, that will enable them to support and

implement good IAQ practices in schools.

IAQ Tools for Schools is a nationwide initiative to help school officials

assess, resolve, and prevent indoor air quality problems and reduce exposure

to asthma triggers in school facilities. Innovative sessions will address

various topics associated with implementing an IAQ program in a school

setting including communication strategies, mold remediation, facilities

management, integrated pest management, new school construction, student

performance, advocacy, financing, asthma management, and more. An awards

ceremony will be held to honor schools with exemplary IAQ programs.

The Grand Hyatt Hotel is conveniently located at Metro Center in downtown

DC, within walking distance from many free museums and cultural attractions

including the White House, Capitol, Vietnam and Korean War memorials,

Washington Monument, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, Ford's Theater, and

MCI Center.
