Guest guest
, I am confused. You say you think you may have mold, and want to run a dehumidifier. Do you see mold, or test for it? What is the relative humidity in your home? What area of the country are you in, to see what the typical R.H. is outdoors? Don't jump to conclusions without knowledge based on facts. just my thoughts...... mark On Mon, 15 Apr 2002 00:50:37 EDT Stinkypouf@... writes: Hello all, a crosspost from : Can anyone recommend a great dehumidifier (quality and SAFE ... no wierd surprises for chemically sensitive)? Or share helpful info/stories about them (or dealing with mold)? I was recommended one by the allergy buyers club for like $280! UGH! If that's what they cost, fine ... but I'd at least like to hear from people about their experience with this kind of appliance. I am trying to deal with what I think is a MOLD problem in my new rental (new to me). I have never had to deal with MOLD before ... I thought winter would be a problem here, but now I am more worried about the SPRING and SUMMER. I have had health changes since moving here, and now that warm weather has come, I am starting to smell strange things. THANK YOU! Guest guest
A dehumidifier works wonders in damp basements, but will not help much in well ventilated rooms with open windows. And, humidifiers are moderately expensive. Look at Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, or similar appliance and home improvement centers for comparison. Prices will vary with higher capacity dehumidifiers costing more. Compare these to that at Allergy Buyers Club. Since the coils are where water condenses and drips into the catch pan, look for a unit on which the coils are easy to clean. Wet coils can become dust traps and promote the mold problem you are trying to solve. Was winter a problem? Do you have a furnace humidifier? These often become mold gardens. Shut the water off. Have you checked thoroughly for water leaks around all plumbing, the roof, and even the vent stacks through the roof? Maybe a dehumidifier is needed, and maybe fixing some other problem will solve your odor and mold.
