Guest guest
My name is and my 3.5yo son has been recently diagnosed with Asperger's. I am still in the process of getting all my meetings so that I can get him some kind of therapy/help. It has been very frustrating and I feel like I have been waiting forever. First diagnosis, then 3.5 months later, the confirmation of the diagnosis, then the school system (who I am having the IEP meeting with in 2 weeks) getting into TEACCH (where I am finally seeing them on Monday) I have spent all this time waiting with little information about what is going to happen next. I feel as if I was so stunned with the information I have been running autopilot since. I am still not sure if it has really sunk in. My brother also has Asperger's and is very very OCD and reserved. He doesn't really talk and even though he is 22, he still talks like he is only 10 or 11. My son is totally different. He has this huge vocabulary, communicates his wants well, very oversocial. He likes to get into personal space and stay there. This is why it was such a shock to me that he had Asperger's. I thought that he couldn't be since he is so social. I understand now the saying " If you know one person with autism, you know one person with autism. "
