Pedro,

Increasing aggression was why we took our son off Risperdal, too. It just

didn't seem to work anymore and actually seemed to make the agression worse. We

switched to something else initially, but it didn't seem to do anything either,

and was risky for a 12 yo to take (could and DID cause paranoia and delusions).

We asked for several months for some type of emergency med for the violent

outbursts. Our son is bigger than I am now and it is very difficult for me to

restrain him or defend myself against him when he gets violent with me. When we

started with a new psychiatrist, we asked him for something to use and he gave

us disolve-able tablets of Zyprexa. When our son was in the hospital a month or

so later, that is what they used as well. I think today was the first time that

we had to give it to him that he didn't pretty much crash out asleep after 45

minutes or so. I think him going to school not long after taking it made the

difference. ( I know, I said we don't use it in the mornings usually, but he

was having some pretty bad delusions this morning. ONce the Zyprexa kicked in,

the delusions stopped.)

Not a bad idea to slowly switch over from the Risperdal to the Zyprexa. I have

heard of people taking it on a daily basis, and not just for an emergency med.

I haven't seen any increased hunger, but we don't use it all the time. We use a

mood stabilizer and 2 anti-psychotic meds to control the agression.

Let us know how it goes, and if you need any more info!
