Floortime is a great way to help initiate communication. I remember doing Floortime with my younger son. I would say words as we played and he would repeat. This led into utilizing a visual schedule as we played and he would ask "what's next" and "all done" etc. RDI is a good strategy for social awareness...having the child begin to notice peers, make eye contact and follow simple directions.
