Betsy,

What type of plumbing do you have ? Is it a gray plastic pipe? If so, is it PB2110, Quest, lettering on the side? It may be polybutylene piping that is covered in a class action suit. What is the age of the building?

Just wondering......

After having spent over two years trying to get a serious water leak repaired in our apartment, and just when we thought the intrusion of waste water from upstairs was finally at an end, I was awakened at 7:00 am this morning by the sound of water splattering in our bathroom. I got up to look and lo and behold, a new hole had broken open in our bathroom ceiling just about 2 inches from the original hole and water was pouring down. A knock on the door produced two firemen who informed us that our upstairs neighbor had a broken water pipe. Water was also pouring down in our hallway through a ceiling vent onto the hall carpeting. One of the firemen advised me to call the Building Code Enforcement Office. I had already done that several times with no results. My thought is that if the ceiling were sound, this new hole never would have appeared and the water would have remained between the upstairs floor and the downstairs ceiling. Something must have been eating at our bathroom ceiling for a long time, now. And the black mold problem has never been cleared up and most likely is spreading and gaining strength and will continue to sicken us. Meantime, I have to find a good lawyer and don't know where to start looking in this area. Guess I'll be on the phone for a good part of the day tomorrow. Hi, Mark.....this is an older apartment complex and I'm pretty sure we have copper pipes. I still have no clue as to how our upstairs neighbor managed to break a pipe but I am so tired of living in other people's waste water. My husband says he can smell the mold but I am so congested all the time that I don't notice the smell. It is a travesty that the people who get deathly sick from a mold problem are prevailed upon to have to muster up so much energy in order to write, e-mail, make phone calls, run around in circles hitting stone walls and try to get something done just to live in a safe home.
