He's worried that he won't know which word to spell and I've told him that I'm sure the teacher will use very obvious sentences so he can tell the difference. (I hope she will)Is this a typical probablem for aspies? My Answer:Oh. My. God. Yes.At least it is for my son. Anxiety about failure is a biggie in our house. We have to play the "What is the worst thing that could happen" game over and over. It goes something like this: think of the worst thing that could happen if you make a mistake on the spelling test. He might refuse to engage in the answer, so go ahead and fill in the blanks. Something along the lines of "You will get a lower grade". But, he'll still be just as smart as he was when he started the day, and just as loved. And ice cream will still taste good, and his cat will still purr, and the dog will still do inappropriate things in the bathroom when she hasn't been walked in time.I think you get the picture.Repeat this exercise about 10 million times.
