Going down isn't too bad, I just take it one step at a time. At work, I won't take the stairs up because, they are too difficult. A few stairs aren't too bad. Before we moved, We had stairs and, it was okay for the most part but, the past few months have been really hard. Getting in and out of cars is not as bad as when I first had surgery. I have to sometimes just lift my leg myself to get it in the car. My biggest problem right now is getting off the bed. Everything else is a piece of cake compared to that, it is very painful to get out of it. Connie juneflower60@... writes: Hi Connie, I was wondering how are you when you walked up and down stairs? Guest guest
I was going to have it the way I usually sleep on it but, I have the TV and, computer in the room and they put the phone jack and, stuff on that side, so I chose to put it on the other side which now I realize was a mistake. As soon as I can get someone to move it for me, I am going to have them do it. The won't even have to move the TV. Connie juneflower60@... writes: Hi Connie, Did you have your right Hip replace ? That's the first step -- measure every aromatic by weight, and then decided if you want to go w/w or w/v in your blends and dilutions. Many absolutes NEED to be diluted to reveal their true nature, or just to be workable. After years of familiarity with them, especially the more liquid ones, you should feel confident not diluting them first (eg, jasmine.) However, some are so strong in odor intensity, I highly recommend diluting them, and that goes for some EOs too, like galbanum. LIke anything, the more you practice and observe, the more you will develop your own technique, albeit with some reality constraints in place, as mentioned with the thick or esp. strong ones. Guest guest
Do not give up hope. Keep seeking different opinions from doctors. I had to be assertive with my doctors while in the Army. I had a thyroid cyst which stuck out and looked like I swallowed a golf ball. My cyst was cancerous but after surgery, radiation over ten years ago, I am all right. I can exercise and work, no I am not the same as before but lead a pretty normal life. You know you symptoms are not normal. Maybe you have just not found the right doctor yet. I wish you the best in your eventual recovery.-lenosan Introduction and question Hello everyone~ My name is Brittney, and I've recently become extremely concerned that I may have a thyroid problem, or somethign along those lines. I was really hoping I could find some answers here, as my doctor is clueless. I am switching doctors, and I actually see the new one tomorrow. I am not sure what to ask him, what to ask for, or anything, so I'm really hoping for help on that. Here is my story; alot of this story may be irrelevant, but I'm not sure what to make of all of this. I'm including everything so nothing gets overlooked: My whole life I have suffered from chronic UTI's and blood in my urine. No one can figure it out to this day. They just tell me it's " normal " for me. I've always had temperature issues.. As a kid and teen, I was always super hot.. and I would sweat alot. I don't know if my periods are irregular, as I've been on birth control since I've had them. I didn't get my first period until I was nearly 15. I was also told as a tween that I was " borderline diabetic " , though I have no idea what that means or if it is even significant. I've also suffered from severe anxiety and depression since I was a teenager. Then, I got sick with pertussis. Really sick. An x-ray (to see if I had pneumonia) showed that I had some " growth " in my chest/ lung area. They thought I had cancer. So I went to a larger hospital for some more testing. Said that it was my thymus, and it was enlarged. But that wasn't as worrisome as this weird protein that I had in my blood. (this is what I was told.. I know it is not very specific. I was very sick and had no idea what was going on). This protein signaled to them that I had cancer SOMEWHERE in my body. Most likely a lymphoma or myeloma. After I had recovered from the bad case of pertussis, I had to go in for more testing. The protein was still there, my thymus still enlarged (but not concerning?), and eventually had a bone-marrow biopsy. That was completely normal. Then, I got pregnant. I went in for more testing after I foudn out I was pregnant. The protein had disappeared! Vanished, though they said I needed to be tested again after baby was born. I never went back. At least, not yet. I also had a doc tell me aroudn this time that my thyroid was enlarged. Nothing was ever done about that. Then, all of the sudden, I was no longer hot anymore, I was cold. Still am, and my dd is 15 months. Then, I started having really low blood pressure readings, like 90/40 most of the time. I sprouted horribly scarring acne on my face, chest and back. My temp was/ is very low as well (pre-O, 96.2 about, post-O, 97.5). Now, at 15 months PP, here are my other weird symptoms.. I have no idea if they are related or what, but here they all are: -Nodule on the right side of thyroid; .8cm big -Grossly enlarged right side of thyroid -Small cyst on left side of thyroid -Abnormal hair growth on my neck, side of face (even on my one cheek), upperlip, back, buttocks, belly, toes, and inner theigh. -Always really cold or really hot -CANNOT lose weight, or if I do, I gain back quickly no matter what I do. -I have a weird lump on the right side of my abdomen that is tender when poked at... again, no one knows what it may be. -Puffy face -headaches -extreme tiredness -anxiety, depression -joint and muscle pain -face discoloration -weird discoloration on the nape of my neck... it is also " swollen " looking. Like a hump that sticks out really far. -Heart palpatations -Low blood pressure and temps -High phosphorous levels -dry skin -bad facial acne that scars -bad body odor/ sweat I can't think of anything else right now. I'm just so sick of feeling like I'm falling apart and no one knows why. I'm only 21 years old and I feel like I'm 80. These docs treat me like I'm a hypochondriac, and I'm sick of wondering if I really am. These symptoms are real, and from the minimal amount that I have read, may be related? Please, someone help me out! Thanks ~Brittney ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together. Guest guest
Hi Brittney, At the very least you should probably have your thyroid levels of TSH, FT3, and FT4 checked out for starters. It also sounds like you may be having hormone issues or your hormones are relatively unbalanced to each other, and possibly iodine and adrenal issues....so blood levels might have to be checked here as well. The best person to ask about all this and exactly what you should do are (LadyBugsandBees) and Janie (Loboshe) on the " NaturalThyroidHormones " and on the " NTH-Adrenals " board. All of these ladies know their stuff and will help you today. Just take your first post and paste it on those two boards and I guarantee you will get help! Best of luck and I will be interested in what they come up with for you! Guest guest
PCOS is iodine deficiency. Cysts, goiter, tumors, sex organ cancers=iodine defiicency. Gracia Hi Brittany, And welcome. The latter part of your post sounded to me like Cushings disease, the hump on the nape of the neck etc. As for the hair loss, but hair on the face, upper lip and other sites sounds very much like PCOS which stands for polycystic ovarian syndrome. If you read up on those you might find some answers. The skin problems and hair loss suggest PCOS to me. I found some websites you may find helpful. I cannot understand why the doctors keep running all sorts of tests and are looking past symptoms that appear to be screaming hormonal imbalances. Hypothyroidism may well be one of your symptoms, in amongst everything else. As far as I have read, the thymus gland is something that normally shrinks as we age. If I recall right, it is linked very much to our developing immune system when we are younger. If I have got that wrong, no doubt someone on the list will put me straight on that. Guest guest
Hey Carla - Did you get the huge snowstorm too? We are totally snowed in! As far as your mother scoby goes... this would be day 10. I liked mine at day 7 - the longer you leave it, the more ferment-y tasting (a little more sour) it will be. Many people here like it that way. I have just learned from experience (which is EXTREMELY limited right now) that the baby will actually just grow like another layer on top of the mother. I kept trying to push my scoby down into the tea, which was a mistake. That disrupts the growth of the baby. I noticed little white patches and after I took it out after 7 days, I realized that those white patches WERE the baby. So, you may have a baby and not even realize it. The " chalky " stuff on the bottom is the yeasty strings and they can be drunk with the rest or strained if you prefer. Some like them - and they are actually good for you. If you want to test it - here's the advice I was given by some people here. Take a straw and slide it down along the inside of the side of the jar (you may need to move the scoby just a bit). Once it's down in the tea, put your finger on the top of the straw and pull the straw out so that a sample of the tea will come out with it. Anymore questions - just let the group know! I hope this helped. You'll pick up on the lingo and stuff fast, but the details come in time. Believe me, I am still asking questions too. We are totally snowed in! Hey, , send us some of your delicious WHITE over to England's dreary grey ;-) I've been waiting for about 20 years to build another decent snowman/snow-woman - just about gets me to the beginning of my Kombucha brewing career! I just wanted to compliment you, on your excellent post to Carla. I don't think I could add anything else more reassuring except, maybe first brews very often aren't the best tasting ones as your brew is still acclimatising to _your_ conditions. Give it and yourself time and be really generous with the acidic starter when you make a new batch. If you don't have enough KT starter you can supplement it with a little distilled or pasteurised (previously boiled) vinegar. This is very good mold prevention strategy. It is best to discard the accumulated yeast on the bottom (use it for bread baking, if you like). Too much yeast makes very beery brews that sour quickly. By getting rid of the extra yeast you maintain a better balance between the yeast and bacteria and produce a better tasting brew. The 2 are helpfully working together, but the yeasts are the more vigorously growing ones and tend to dominate unless 'weeded' out. S C O B Y is and acronym for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria & Yeasts. You're on the right track, Carla! Enjoy your brewing and phase in your consumption gradually. Greetings most kombuchaly .... Guest guest
Hi My son had the same problem he had two operations and we thought everthing was fine. No matter how hard we tried to keep the ear dry it was impossible. We went to a new doctor and he suggested we have a third surgery to open the hole more. He told me that he thought that it could be his last surgery because if he gets the hole the right size the ear will drain all the gunk out by itself. My son started all of this when he was 5 so we had to deal with grow throughout this process his is know 16. I am happy to say he had his last surgery 3 years ago the third time full surgery. The doctor opened the ear up and we did have drainage for a few months. He told us to get boric acid powder and use a dropper to put it in the ear to help dry it out. We did this for a few months and the ear drainage is a minimum. He only has problems with it when he plays football and sweats alot. I would not be against the surgery since we had a good outcome but you might ask the doctor about the boric acid powder. Good Luck introduction and question Hi,I've been lurking on this group for a while, learning what I can aboutcholesteatomas. My son (age 19) had a CWD operation just over 2 years ago,and has been having regular suction clearances since then (at least once amonth, often more). He has had 2 further minor operations under generalanaesthetic to remove more skin and bone. His ear has still not healed properly and is still leaking fluid every day.We recently saw a new specialist who wants him to have another fulloperation (i.e. cutting through the skull behind the ear) to greatlyincrease the size of the cavity. I said "how do we know that the op will besuccessful this time and the cavity will heal completely?" and he said thereis a 70% chance that it will heal completely this time.To be honest, I am not too happy about that. That seems a low chance ofrecovery for such a major and risky operation.Anyway - to my question. I've been wondering what would happen if we usedantibiotic drops AND dried the inside of the ear each day using a hairdryer. I know it sounds wacky, but I figure that the infection thrives in amoist environment, so if we keep the ear ultra dry it might kill off theinfection once and for all. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Could it do any harm to the ear tokeep it so dry?I would be grateful for any thoughts as I am really not convinced thatconstantly cutting away more and more of the bone in the ear is a sensibleway forward. Thanks for listening,Gailhttp://www.LivingWaterBibleGames.com/ -------------------------------------
Guest guest
What your referring to is a modified radical, many of have us have had them. They have a 85% success rate of the c-toma not to come back. Basically the Doc will be removing the mastoid bone of the affected ear. The drainage of the c-toma is very infectious to the person, the mastoid bone is porous type of a bone and the drainage can hide in there. If all of the drainage is not cleaned out of there then the c-toma WILL grow back. In my opinion because of this the CWU's are useless as a operation as I have yet heard of a person who has had less then few CWU and had the c-toma go bye-bye for ever. Those who have CWU have in general have more than just a few operations, it seems to be endless. I had my Modified Radical in 1979 and I have not had the c-toma come back in nearly 30 years.....These operations are very painful for the person and if a modifed radical will stop them then that's the way you should go. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Tom. From what I understand, the first operation my son had WAS a radical mastoidectomy, but my son’s ear has still not healed properly. The cavity is not very large, and so it’s not very easy to clean. It seems to me that the only reason the doctor wants to do another mastoidectomy is to make the cavity easier to clean. I find the whole thing worrying because 1) there is no guarantee that the ear will heal even if we have another surgery, and 2) I don’t like invasive surgery – I don’t like the idea of continually cutting away more of the bone. I’m not sure that we have much option though. Guest guest
Hi everyone. I'm Michele and I currently live in Knoxville. I have a 12 YO daughter with AS. We'll be moving to Huntsville or Madison Al over the summer and I was wondering if anyone in this group has any experience with the public schools there. I know the Madison schools are great, but are they great for kids with AS? Also while reading some of the posts, I noticed that there was a discussion about risperdal/abilify/and ssri's... My daughter had a terrible time with meltdowns, hyperactivity, anger outbursts etc...which made it next to impossible to send her to school, so I homeschooled her for four years. She has been on Zoloft since she was 7 which cut the outbursts in half, so it was good for us, but still not keeping her stable enough to trust leaving her with anyone. We added Abilify in August and it was like a miracle. She seemed to change overnight. It was like she calmed down, matured, started talking to people in a more normal way...it was amazing. She did gain a lot of weight...about 15 lbs in 2 months, I know this sounds extreme, but her Dr put her on Metformin for weight control and she has stopped the weight gain. We were able to put her in school within 3 weeks of starting the Abilify, and the teachers adore Josie and she's had only one meltdown all year. They actually wonder what I was so worried about. Compare that to not even being able to leave her for an hour with a scout troop 2 months before the Abilify and you can see what a difference it made. So I hope this info helps someone to make a decision. Meds can be scary, but we've had such a great experience with this one. Anyway I really digressed there, but I am interested in hearing if anyone in this group has info about the Madison schools... Thanks:)
