Dr. Lipsey,

I had a client recently who suffered severe reactions after purchasing this equipment. The family moved out of the home because of his illness. I witnessed that after he was in the home for approximately 10-15 minutes he would have severe respiratory difficulties, so severe he went outside and vomited. They thought for sure it was " the BLACK mold". I performed a IAQ inspection, took several air, tape, and cultured samples. During my investigation I noticed the devices in the bedroom and bathrooms. On my second visit with the lab results he had the same reactions. After I unplugged the units he has been fine. We did contact the manufacturer who stated the units do produce ozone. Did you measure the device or review the literature? I did not measure the amount of ozone present........ the client was relieved after the plug was pulled.

sincerely,

Mark Rakow, CIE, CMR

Post: Ionic Breeze Germicidal Air Purifier---by Sharper Image

Dr. R. Lipsey, Toxicologist on 3/20/02 I met with customer service reps from Sharper Image concerning recommending their new air purifier, Ionic Breeze Germicidal Air Purifier. As I stated earlier, I was concerned that it produces ozone, but the levels are small, so it is not considered an ozone generator. It kills mold, bacteria and virus with a UV lamp that emits UV-C radiation in the range of 250 nm that destroys the DNA of microorganisms. It collects dust and spores onto stainless steel collector blades that can be wiped clean. There is no sound and there are no moving parts. I recommend it.DR. RICHARD L.
