Guest guest
I would try raw, organic coconut oil. You can get it at any natural foods market or a Whole Foods market. You can also buy a product called Candidase at Whole Foods. It comes in a capsule. You'll have to mix it into breast milk and give to her with a dropper. The juice from fermented sauerkraut is a good idea too.I would also buy Florastor, which contains a probiotic which can clear yeast. You can get it from your pharmacist without a prescription but sometimes they have to order it. You will have to mix it in some of your breast milk and then give it to her by dropper. Get the baby biotic from GAPS and give that too. You can't do too much probiotics so keep giving it all day, throughout the day. It's quite disturbing that the Nystatin and Diflucan didn't work. The pediatrician should consider having a culture done to determine the type of yeast and the laboratory who also does the analysis can culture it and test it for sensitivity to anti-fungal medicines. On Aug 4, 2009, at 7:36 PM, Danila7 wrote:My daughter is 2 months and she has already been on Nystatin (single, then double doze) and Diflucan, neither worked... Guest guest
I also think that once you start treatment with coconut oil, probiotics (Florastor and Baby-biotic) and Candidase that you need to get rid of the toothbrush you put in her mouth. It is contaminated with yeast and you'll just reinfect her if you put it in her mouth after starting treatment. Any dropper that you use should be washed/soaked with apple cider vinegar, undiluted, to disinfect it and then rinsed with water. You also need to swab your breasts with a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar to kill any yeast that may have deposited there from nursing.Good luck! I believe the above things will help her get rid of the yeast but none of them will be instant cures. You will likely see small changes in the first 2 days and then she will get better and better. The coconut oil can be rubbed all around the inside of her mouth. As an aside, it is very effective at getting rid of athlete's foot, which is also caused by fungus. On Aug 4, 2009, at 7:36 PM, Danila7 wrote:My daughter is 2 months and she has already been on Nystatin (single, then double doze) and Diflucan, neither worked... Guest guest
The juice should be fine for her and actually, you could mix the Baby-biotic and Candidase into it, or into your breast milk.On Aug 5, 2009, at 7:04 AM, Danila7 wrote:I just mad sauerkraut a few days ago, so I have some available. Guest guest
I think the genetian violet is only cancer in some super high doses. It is all natural and does work. Too, doest’n thrush usually care on its own eventually anyway? (Not that it isn’t painful as heck for you if nursing. Owwww. Just put it on your nipples after nursing and keep them really clean and dry. I found that just the violet from my nipples was enough to cure the thrush in both of us as she would get it when eating. Either way, the cabage may make her gassy etc. just like anyone. Ha ha. I would go really slow with something like that. I think you are better off with adding some pro-biotics to her milk. If she is on breast milk, then she is getting lots of pro-biotics that way. Too, rather than cabbage I would consider some homemade yogurt or kefir that is very high in pro-biotics and just add water so she can drink it down like milk. Anyway, don’t walk in fear. She is going to be just fine! Antibiotics aren’t ideal, but you can just try to repopulate her gut and she will be a-ok. Hang in there! Guest guest
I am sorry, but I just have to correct some misinformation here. Gentian Violet is not all natural. The chemical name is hexamethyl pararosaniline chloride. It is named gentian violet due to its color. It does work though for many people. We chose to use it on our baby after looking at the cancer research and determining that we would be using a low enough dose that it was not risky for us. Also, I think it would be risky to assume that thrush will go away by itself. If it infects your nipples, they could wind up with such bad trauma that you may have to wean. It is really worth it to treat it. Also, I would not personally feel comfortable introducing and dairy product or saurkraut to an EBF 2 month old. I would look into getting a dairy free probiotic with Bifidus infantis and acidophulus to give her. I believe that Kirkman's Labs makes one. Also, the Allergies forum on Mothering.com has a whole bunch of amazing women going through similar problems if you are looking for more support. They have been invaluable to me. My baby and I battled thrush for over 2 months and wound up kicking it with long term diflucan for me (10 weeks) and 2 weeks for him along with nipple treatment and sanitation measures (washing bras and towels after each use.) If it happened again, I would probably not choose the diflucan route, but it did work. --Jessi I just mad sauerkraut a few days ago, so I have some available. But can I give it to a 2-month old? Guest guest
Bio-Kult is labeled as containing dairy but the Baby-biotic does not. Whole Foods also sells a good quality probiotic for babies by Jarrow. I think it's called Baby Jarrow. It's in the refrigerated section with the supplements/vitamins.I think the juice from the sauerkraut is fine and if you watch Dr. -McBride on youtube.com she talks about introducing it to newborns but as with anything introduced to babies you need to watch for signs of intolerance (red ring around the rectum, vomiting, spitting up, acne).I don't think there's one path to getting rid of yeast and restoring the gut. From what I've heard/read and experienced, it seems a variety of approaches are sometimes necessary. I had to put myself and my baby on Nystatin for 2 months to get rid of the thrush, as well as washing my nipples with undiluted apple cider vinegar daily for 2 weeks to ensure there wasn't yeast lurking there. I'm still giving him probiotics daily, along with feeding him teaspoons of raw coconut oil to be sure it doesn't return and he's now 15 months old and our saga began when he was 3 months old. Also, I don't feel that thrush will clear up on it's own. The white stuff may disappear from the baby's mouth but my son's pediatrician feels that once it's seen in the mouth and if there are red dots around the rectum, than the yeast has set up house in the gut and it's vital to get rid of it.I do agree that there are probiotics in breast milk but when there's a thrush issue going on I believe supplementing with additional probiotics is necessary in order to achieve therapeutic levels. Plus, the mother may be lacking in some good bacteria and supplementing insures that the baby is getting everything needed. On Aug 6, 2009, at 3:02 PM, Jessi Patti wrote:I am sorry, but I just have to correct some misinformation here. Guest guest
Ha! I was wondering that same thing after responding on this post yesterdayJ. Too funny. I don’t see one couldn’t. Too, there are some ways to make homemade formula so if it were me, I would try to make homemade breastmilk kefir (ha) or use raw milk homemade kefir and then add liver, egg yolk etc. to ensure that the nutrients are there. Nourishing Traditions has some great homemade formula recipes. I would write it down but I lent my book to a friend recently. Of course breastmilk is best, but some babies have to be on formula for various reasons and the stuff in a can is junk. Anyway, thrush is horrible and painful. It it meant pumping for a while to let the thrush clear up, that is sometimes necessary as it seriously feels like someone taking glass shards to your nipples after nursing. Not good when that really should be a great bonding time. As for healing on own – I meant in the baby but treat mommy. Usually it will clear on own in baby if not continued to be exposed to infected mom. I think our guts can take a bit more than baby so I chose to treat me and not my daughter and we were fine after a week or two. Though, my daughter was older than 2 mos when it happened so a bit different situation as she was already almost 10 mos. Guest guest
Hi, I am not sure what Dr CM-B's probiotic is called but I use a product called Baby Probiotic which I order online (www.nutrivene.com). It is formulated for babies up to two years. HTH Donna From: Danila7 <danila7@...>Subject: [ ] Re: Baby probiotics safe?
