Well said, Ginger. I have only been lurking lately. I, too, am disturbed by

Jerry. I pray for him every night, as I pray for all of us with AIH. We all

do share a lot of love in this group, and hopefully that will continue. I

haven't seen anything from Geri lately, and I read in an earlier post that

she is no longer with the group. What happened? Has she become more ill?

Or did she stop for other reasons? She also was a great support to all of

us. I am still trying to absorb all the information that I have received

lately about myself. My doctor says he thinks I may be in remission, but he

will keep checking my blood every 4 weeks for quite awhile. That is fine

with me.

I hope everything is going well with you. How have you been feeling lately?

If my memory is working, weren't you the one in the car accident at the same

time I had my accident at work? They now tell me that I would have been

lucky to have only broken bones in my foot. I crushed it -- makes things a

lot worse. Haven't been able to work at all for 2 months, I am still going

to physical therapy, and it will be at least another month before I can even

think about working. The damage was very extensive to my foot, so I can't do

much besides read everyone's posts. But, like you, I really haven't had much

to say lately.

I am thinking and praying for everyone in the group. Love your neighbor as

you love yourself! May we all still continue to be support to each other.

Take care,

Robin, AIH

I have to agree with Joan about this, Jerry. While you see yourself as

compassionate and trying to understand, others don't see it that way. We all

speak of our illness in this group -- it is a way of supporting each other

and receiving that ever-needed support from the group. We have not been

provocative as you have been. Sit back and read some of your posts -- maybe

you will see what we are trying to get across to you. Yes, we need your

support and you need ours, but to cause people who have been here for a long

time to leave the group is certainly not a way to support us, nor will you

receive any support. Yes, you have medical problems and have overcome a lot

of problems. About the same as the rest of us. So, you really are no

different from the rest of us, but you come across as much better than we

are. Slamming group members and getting into religious discussions is not

necessary, nor is that playing by the rules.

I want to come back and be a part of this group again. But, I am sorry to

say, Jerry, that I am afraid too -- because of your attitude. I admire all

of us -- we have a battle to fight, and we are doing it as best we can. We

are sharing our ups and downs with each other, but we always offer that

needed support. I get support from reading the posts, but it is not the same

as posting. What was said in an earlier post is true -- this group is not

solely CENTERED ON JERRY.

Can we please get back to the love and support that we have all had for each

other -- perhaps we could get some of our beloved group members back. We

need to continue to help each other with our ups and downs, our happy and sad

moments -- SHARING like we used to do.

I pray for all members of the group. As Diane says, love a lot and laugh a

lot -- it is good for the heart and soul.

Take care,

Robin, AIH

I can only say that I had these horrible optic migraine headaches after the mold exposure and my eye twitched like crazy! Is there a headache specialist or neurologist that your eye doctor could refer you to? You did not say how old your son is so he may not be able to identify the source of the pain. Does he eat products like hard cheese, yogurt, chocolate, coffee ice cream, sugar or artificial flavorings that might bring on the headaches? Also, certain herbs like rosemary used to also trigger them. How about an environmental allergist?

Got that here.

I am a little behind on the eight ball! graduated in VA only what a

year ago? And it was only because a young woman with MR sued the school

district to be allowed to graduate with the other students - walking down the

stage, wearing a gown. From my previous job here in VA, this is very common

as well as not having the pix in the school albums.

I also reread what Rick said about having Jan go to different schools, even

out of her school district. That was the key to 's success, we moved

often and try as we might to get the correct placement if it did not work

out, we found another site and either they bussed her or I took her and they

paid me so much a mile for gas. I was not as worried about inclusion as I was

making sure she could read and write and function.

Rejoice!

Amie,

You are up in Northern VA ... they are heartless up there!! ;-) All the

schools in Tidewater area allow students with disabilities to graduate with

their class ... have done so for years and years. They do the senior stuff

and are in the class portraits in the yearbooks. I am sure they know they

would get their butts sued if they didn't!

My daughter has been in her school yearbooks since she started K and has

always been pictured with her class.

Last week was the prom and my daughter had a wonderful time, just wondeful!!

One of the things the school did was purchase disposable cameras for every

table. Every day Stef comes home with pictures other students have given her

that they took of her and her date or her dancing with someone. She is loving

all the senior activities. Our school is allowing her to be a senior and

walk thru graduation with her peers that she has moved thru school with, even

though she will stay in school until she is 21. Next year she will be

focusing on vocational skills and job experiences, no more academics. I

don't think she could have a better senior year than she is having now!

Actually, despite the usual garbage they try to dish out, it was better than

the Tidewater where they referred to her using the M____ word!!!

did all the senior stuff to, they had allowed that before - just not

walking on stage as stupid as that is!

Funny about staying in school till 21 yrs to focus on vocational and

job skills. We kept her focus on academics till then and still insisted she

stay in a reading program, however, I suddenly realized the last year that I

was not sure really knew the 100 or so " danger " words she would have

learned in a functional setting, so I included it in her IEP. Do you know

I could NOT get them to do this one simple functional skills request!!! LOL!!!

Rejoice!

That is not an option in most southern states. One cannot go out of

district to get the proper educational placement. You go where you pay

taxes, end of story. I want to move to a school system that provides what

needs academically and socially. I believe I have quoted a

statistic before that I got from a workshop at an NDSC convention: Adults

with DS have a 70% unemployment rate. Those who have jobs have difficulty

keeping them because they lack social skills. More people in the workforce

(disabled on not) are fired because they lack social skills than job skills.

I want to have BOTH. We have looked at a district right above

Augusta where they claim to have an inclusive high school with modifications

and adaptations. We have less than 2 months to find a place that is best

for . We can adapt and so can but will need a good

education and adult services which the lady with whom we spoke claims they

have there. Now if they just had good jobs for the two of us. We have only

two months left on our lease. We really could make a life for ourselves

here but would have very little to do when he is an adult. The

adult services here stink.

Maybe once we get Texas straitened out we can focus on Colorado.

I haven't been posting anything we've been doing about CPS and foster

care in Texas but the legislature is beyond angry at what they have been

shown and the state comptroller's report on the conditions in which these

children are living and the amount of drugs the kids are on shocked me

and I see some really shocking things. The CPS and the foster care system

has been in the press constantly and public awareness is huge at this time.

I think something good will come out of all this.

The head of the state dept that oversee's CPS and foster care is " retiring "

in October.

In Texas there is no oversight for these children in state care. Even

nursing homes

have oversight, though it's not always good oversight it's legally mandated.

Many of these children are getting 4 to 14 psychiatric drugs at a time.

We have had 6 restraint deaths of children in Texas since 2000 in these

facilities.

Wonder if the drugs had anything to do with it?

The thing that gets me is I finally got that all the states are probably

this bad. It's

inbelievable.
