Guest guest
Hi, , I'm no expert -- but I think maybe you need to slow down on your food introduction and go back to the basics until your stool normalizes. From what I understand (and I could be wrong), the reason Dr. McBride tailors the GAPS diet to the individual is because everyone heals at a different rate. That's why some people can start eating ghee almost from the beginning and others have to wait months. Maybe someone else on this list has some ideas as to why you are only going once every other day and why your stools are so loose and why your toddler is still constipated (how much Biokult does s/he get?). I don't know why that is happening... so I would suggest going back to basics. I responded below... > not sure if i am C or not. Because it is loose. If i take BK i go > every other day. If i don't take BK i go that often too but it is > normal. So it seems to me the BK is only making when i go loose and > a bigger amount like my toddler. Sounds like a combination of both constipated and too loose -- since you are not going every day and when you do go it's too loose. Bottom line, you don't have a normal stool. According to the Fiber Menace website, for a normal stool, you should be moving your bowels at least once daily and it should correspond to the Bristol Stool Scale as a # 4, # 5 or # 6. If it looks like a # 6 (not totally liquid, just loose), that's great but I think you are still supposed to be going at least once daily. The stools also should not be larger than a quarter in diameter. It says on the Fiber Menace site: " To summarize, you should move your bowels as soon as you sense the defecation urge, usually after each major meal. In this ideal situation, stools are soft, small, and barely formed, which is perfectly normal. They weight no more than 100-150 grams. If this optimal frequency isn’t attainable, you should pass stools at least daily, usually after breakfast. In this case, the stools accumulated over a 24-hour period are larger, heavier, and more formed, but still passable. On the other hand, when: * Your stools are larger than your middle or index finger, or… * Your stools weigh substantially more than two standard-issue ballpark wieners, or… * You need to strain, or you are experiencing discomfort, or… * You don’t have effortless stools at least daily, or… * You are supplementing with fiber, or rely on prune juice, oatmeal, or laxatives... …or all of the above, this truly means that something is wrong. So if I were you, I'd stay off of it until you get a normal stool. > As for the broth i thought it was the gelatin to heal the gut and > rebuild the enterocytes. Need to rethink/read this > as broth in hot weather is very unappetizing and we are all souped > out after 2 months. Well I'm not sure about adding the Bernard Jensen gelatin. I hadn't heard of anyone doing that. I would keep drinking lots and lots of broth -- as much as you can -- until your stool normalizes. > For low fibre - are you meaning no more veggies then? I would just do broth and meat until your stool normalizes more. You can add cooked veggies but definitely no raw veggies. > How do you > achive lower fibre when you have already removed the marjority of > fibre? Not every day either. Need to > think on that one. Ususally it is steamed veggies or soup/stewed > veggies. I also simmer the veggies in broth when we are not having Steamed or cooked non-starchy veggies are fine. From what I understand, raw veggies are only to be added when your stool is normal and you can handle it. > > soup. Meat with no veggies is not something we will be able to do > easily. We eat the veggies with the meat because meat is > unappetizing other wise. So i can't see lowering veggie intake. > Maybe i can find a cahrt with fiber content and see which are the > lowest and add more of them. There is one on the Fiber Menace website: http://www.fibermenace.com/book/faq.html#fiber_content The other thing you might consider is doing enemas as Dr. - McBride recommends in her book. That might help. Ann Marie
Guest guest
If you are still on gluten and dairy (especially dairy), try eliminating dairy while continuing the probiotics for a week or two and see if there is a change.Joan From: heathergabrielmc@...Date: Wed, 28 May 2008 00:42:36 +0000Subject: [ ] Re: Biokult - BM I'm just chiming in here, but I wonder if the Biokult just isn't the right probiotic for you and your daughter? It may not be right for everyone, and perhaps we shouldn't just assume that it is at the cost of listening to our own bodies. Some ingredients may not be working for you, or--who knows? But if you felt better NOT taking it, then maybe you could try a different brand and see how that works for you? I take a very strong one right now by Metagenics called Ultra Flora IB (about $30 for 60 caps, each one at 15 billion strains). Although I have had loose stools now for weeks, too, and I'm not sure what's going on with me either...so I can't tell you if it's helping me or not! Anyway, there are lots of others out there.... ~ M. Change the world with e-mail. Join the i’m Initiative from Microsoft.
