Hi and welcome. Our sons sound the same in terms of others not identifying him

as having AS. My son is 15 and has been on Respridal for about 2 years. It had

been great for him and we have had no side effects at all. We were hoping to

have the weight gain issue as he is very much under weight, but no such luck!

LOL. He had even taken it later in the evening with no sleep issues. He takes

this now in conjunction with concerta. Hope this helps. If you have any other

questions let me know.

for him and we haven't taken it yet and she did discuss all the side effects

both short term and long term with me, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a

child that has taken this and what was the result?

Hi,

My son was RX'd it when he was in 5th grade for anger and frustration.

It worked.

Many experience weight gain, but I think my son's ADHD meds counterbalanced it.

He was only on for a few months until summer.

I've never heard of it being used for what your son will use it for, though. I thought ADHD meds just "ran out" as the day progressed. I guess we all learn something new every day. he he.

Good luck.

Hi all, I am new here but have a quick question. My son's psych just Rx'ed Risperdal (to help him sleep and ease the transitions after coming down off his ADHD meds) for him and we haven't taken it yet and she did discuss all the side effects both short term and long term with me, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a child that has taken this and what was the result? I read a few things online and it states it's for schizophrenia and for ages 13 to 17.Check out www.autism.com and check out drug listings and parent ratings-- Sent from my Palm PreOn Oct 17, 2010 10:55, sammiam832 <sammiam832@...> wrote:

Hi Samm,

My son has been on resperidon since 4th grade (now 8th) and it has worked fine. He switched him to Ambilify for a little while which actually worked better, but he gained way too much weight and we've since switched back to resperidon, One note, you might want to ask your dr about. My son was originally diagnosed with ADHD in Kindergarden, then Sensory Integration Disorder was added in 2nd grade. But I already had two much older children with ADHD and my youngest was so different and NONE of the stimulant medicine normally perscribed for ADHD worked with him. Actully made him worse behaviorally. In 5th grade we moved where we are now and the dr here diagnosed him with Aspergers and it all made sense. He changed my son to Stratera and things got much better. He said Asperger kids do not do well on stimulants like Ritalin, Adderall, or Concerta which my son had all been given in the past and none of it worked. Not sure if

it's something you might want to think about.

I had the same expereience - mine was way worse on ADHD meds with agression - once he was off them behavior improved tremendously, and we do use Abilify but thankfully my son is not having the weight gain issue.
