Guest guest
My 20 year son has recently been diagnosed with Asperger's. Early on, we knew he had problems and we had him tested numerous times through the schools. I had many discussions with his pediatrition regarding his symptoms but was never referred to a pyschiatrist and there was never a diagnosis. While he has been diagnosed as Asperger's, I am questioning whether it is really Asperger's or really high functioning autism in that he had a severe early age speech problem. At age 3, he did not speak and did not seem to understand words. He was placed into a Special Ed Preschool for children who are Communicatively Handicapped. He was mainstreamed in 2nd grade and has struggled ever since. He continues to rock, has poor hygiene, no friends (although everyone is friendly to him - he doesn't understand the difference), obsessive behaviours, no social life, etc. What are the actual differences between Asperger's and high functioning autism?
