A quote about the concept:

"Chemical Sensitivity Foundation representatives will be calling people who live within a certain radius of the WTC site to invite them to participate in our registry if they have developed health problems they believe are related to the Ground Zero air quality. We also welcome to our registry anyone else in the New York City area who believes he or she has developed health problems related to the 9/11 attacks. At this point, it is not clear how far one would have needed to be from Ground Zero to escape health effects from the fires. (Our registry will be divided into geographical groupings to facilitate useful comparisons.)

Those indicating an interest in joining our registry will be sent a short questionnaire asking them about various health problems they may have been experiencing since 9/11. We will also ask a few questions about how close they were when the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11 and how much time they spent in the area in the ensuing days and weeks. We will not be asking for anyone's medical records for our registry. The Chemical Sensitivity Foundation wishes to assure you that we will do our utmost to protect the confidentiality of any information that registry participants give us, including their names, addresses, and phone numbers.

The Chemical Sensitivity Foundation hopes that the information we gather will help shed some light upon what may be happening to residents and workers in Lower Manhattan. As a organization that has no ties to governmental agencies or academic institutions, which are sometimes dependent on corporate funding, we are free to gather information that can help draw attention to emerging patterns of health problems, patterns that may suggest useful directions for future research projects. Our Foundation's realization that chemical sensitivity can be a devastating condition that may produce ongoing symptoms for the foreseeable future puts us in a position to focus on aspects of the health risks to New Yorkers that others may be slow to see."
