Guest guest
Hi, I just joined this group. My son is three years old and has autism. We have been following the DAN! protocol for a year and a half. has been taking enzymes with each meals for over a year: Kirkman Enzyme Complete and Creon 5. I have a beginner's question: Our DAN doctor advised not to take enzymes on an empty stomach for more than two weeks, because he said the enzymes would break down the protective layer of mucus that lines the gut. He said it is OK to use enzymes on an empty stomach for up to two weeks, but then we must let the mucus layer reconstitute itself. Obviously that does not allow much room for using enzymes for other purposes than digesting food. Can someone comment on that? Are there enzymes designed for systemic use that do not break down the gut lining? How about Virastop and Candex? Would those break down the mucus? I guess Mucostop would obviously break down the gut lining, as its purpose is precisely to break down mucus. I wonder why the bottle does not mention that issue. I am really interested in trying systemic enzymes but would like reassurances that it would not impact gut health. Thanks! Karin
