Guest guest
I know this is off topic so I'll keep it short. We have used ear candles on my daughter (15 months) for excessive wax during teething and a chiropractor and she has never had an ear infection (never vaccinated)
Guest guest
What are ear candles? This is very interesting, as I have three children and have never heard of this before. Thanks! Guest guest
I have had a bit of experience with ear infections, my own and my children's. I agree that dairy foods can cause problems, both directly and through your breastmilk. You might want to look at your diet if you are still nursing. Garlic Ear Oils are available at Health food markets. Often they a mixtures of many herbs. I recommend the ones with white willow bark added as they tend to kill the pain and the infection. My daughter's only round of antibiotics was due to an ear infection. After 10 miserable days of pouring all that pink goo down her, the infection did indeed return. It was then that I put a few drops of Garlic oil into the affected ear (it can help to have someone else to administer the drops while you nurse her). She has been infection-free for years now. My 3 month old just had a bout with his ears. We hadn't taken him to a doctor but " just knew " it was another ear infection. One application of the oil with white willow bark and he fell right to sleep. I dosed him one or two more times but he hasn't had another bout yet (6mo. now). Best of luck with your children. - - - Love and Blessings, Ocean Song " Thank you Great Spirit for blessing us with yet another learning experience " ---------- > One of the recent posts reminded me of something I wanted to ask.... my son > (now 3 1/2) had a lot of ear infections early on and now my daughter has had > two at the ripe old age of 6 months. Guest guest
THANKS to everyone for the great tips on ear infections. I am going to get this stuff, so that I am ready if my kids should come down with a ear infection. I am thrilled that I wont have to resort to antibiotics! Guest guest
One common cause for ear infections that I've heard of is cow's milk. Over and over I've heard that if you eliminate cow's milk from a child's diet, their ear infections will go away. Just an idea! In April,my 4 year old autistic son had an ear infection(actually both ears).Against our gut feeling,we did the amoxicillin thing. He reacted with hives and screaming. We switched antibiotics. He ended up with yeast overgrowth. We ended up giving him an antifungal. That resulted in die-off and a very miserable child. All this took place over 3 months!3 months of misery for taking the antibiotic! We WILL use natural methods of treating it if it happens again! Guest guest
Kim, My daughter is 3 yrs old with pauci JRA. I have had trouble with ear infections with both my son and daughter (my son does not have JRA) . The only reason both kids had frequent ear infections is a hereditary factor. Ear infections run in both my husbands and my families. My son had three sets of tubes in his ears and only 1 set. has some developmental delays I believe were caused by the frequent infections, and seems fine. Guest guest
Kim, I think you are probably just seeing ear infections at the same time as JRA. The two are generally not related. Does your daughter have allergies? When my now 13 year old son---who does not have JRA--- was just shy of 3, we found that he was allergic to soy, beef, and bananas. At the peds suggestion, we removed those items from his diet. Within a few weeks he stopped getting ear infections. Might be worth exploring if ear infections continue to be a problem. Guest guest
I too have had family members injured by a traditional chiropractor. Luckily, I came across one that only does the Pierce method (no twisting of the neck or popping of the back bones etc. and requires much more training than normal) and I feel very comfortable with him, but I will never see a traditional type again. I also have my 2 1/2 year old adjusted and I have since he was hours old. Guest guest
elaine this had happened to alec twice. both times, what finally worked was a trip to the ENT. the ENT drained out the fluid in his ear- with what seemed to be almost like a little vaccuum. he then put alec on antibiotics and floxin ear drops. we had to keep alec out of the pool at the beginning of this summer because of this. good luck, lori- mom to danielle (12) and alec (8DS)

In my fathers childhood they had no antibiotics. Both of his only siblings died from this. I hope will be well soon. I bet he misses swimming. Ted had tubes put in last month but only for fluid. I don't have much advice except get a stronger antibiotic and our doctor always gives us ear drops when Ted's ear is draining with tubes. Good luck.
