Guest guest
I would look for a good sensory occupational therapist. I'm no expert but it sounds like the priopreceptive system might be off if deep pain isn't felt. Try heavy work exercises, pushing, pulling, lifting, jumping.... And one that specializes in "not feeling pain" when fall down and get hurt, etc. Thanks! Guest guest
Go to the SPD Website and look at the list of preferred therapists in your area who specialize in Sensory processing. We found a fabulous therapist who actually trained at the Star Center in Colorado, under Lucy Jane …..( the modern day guru of sensory processing.) Our little guy was diagnosed PDD-NOS at three years old and we really did not make any serious headway until we realized the majority of his problems were sensory… Early intervention and understanding of the problem is huge and absolutely worthwhile. Between his therapy sessions and ongoing guidance for us from the therapist, we have come a long way baby! You can be so much more helpful to the child when you better understand what he is experiencing… He is now five and is doing very well in mainstream kindergarten. I don’t think the problems ever go away but he is being trained to recognize and deal with the social and emotional issues he has. He does have an aid in the classroom, but she only observes him and redirects / supports as needed. We are extremely encouraged…..Good Luck. Try these books… The sensory sensitive child / Raising a sensory smart child…VERY insightful and you will see your family dynamics a million times over…… Teri.
