Guest guest
I took my 10 yr old aspie to his first swim lesson this morning and it went great! I had talked to the manager before hand and said she would work with him. She put him in with a group that was about 6 yrs or so and it went great. My advice is always ask if accomodations can be made. This is really the first year that I am determined that he is going to experience what other kids do so I have really stepped out on a limb and just ask. What are they going to say "no"? I often get that "Oh if they only had a school in this area for him" . The reality is we have to make these kids fit into this society because this society is not going to change for them. I found a camp to send him to called Camp Courageous. It is 4 hours away but I think it will be a terrific opportunity for him. He does not have "friends" so this will give him the opportunity to be with other kids like him. I am very excited for him! Just wanted to share something positive for a change! Guest guest
Dear Lori, I have a friend who volunteered at Camp Courageous and says she was very impressed. I hope your son has a great experience there! Jill
