When I was unable to get Bio-Kult I looked around several

places and found Garden of Life's Primal Defense Ultra

Ultimate Probiotic Formula. One capsule has 13 species of

beneficial cultures including soil-based probiotics called

Homeostatic Soil Organisms (HSOs). There are 5 billion probiotic

cells per capsule and the instructions say to work up to taking

3 capsules per day. I guess 2 of these would be about the

same strength as 1 Bio-Kult. It is dairy free. The other ingredients

are less than 0.5% of rice maltodextrin and magnesium stearate (from

vegetable source). So it seems very similar to Bio-Kult.

The one drawback I've found to this probiotic is that its not as

easy to give to kids. The Bio-Kult is white powder and doesn't

taste too bad. I can sprinkle it on "mashed potatoes" made of cauliflower

and my 4 year old doesn't mind it. The Primal Defense is mixed

with Barley Grass and Oat Grass and is bulkier and has a dark green

color. So far the only way I've been able to get the 4-year-old to take

it is mixed in a blueberry smoothie.

So I think I'm going back to Bio-Kult when we are done with this.

Does anyone have an idea as to the shelf life of Bio-Kult? I was thinking

I would try to buy 2 months worth the next time and re-order when the

1st bottle runs out (so I'd always have the next bottle ready if they

run out).
