Guest guest
Our son will turn 10 on February and you are describing him. WE are on top of him for table manners. He now can set his own place setting but every thing is consistent , repetition, same routine and he has a full picture schedule hubby, oldest daughter and I worked on for years! Son over stuffs his mouth, cannot drink from a cup, wants to clean his face with his hands and he has napkin right next to him. All I can say is now he eats with silverware which he never did, sensory thing. WE brush his mouth with a nuk brush and he stopped being so messy. Now he brushes his mouth himself with nuk brush as we have taught him. I sit him next to me on the table and tell him you are a big boy and need to eat nicely. If he takes too much food in his mouth I take his plate away and tell him. Nice eating. One smal bit hands on lap. Repetition. He can use his silverware now even a knife. IIt took alot of work, frustration. I reward him when he eas nicely and priase him all the time .Reward him once he is done with a show, something he really likes to do., You can email me off list if you like.this is still a problme but not as bad. We thought he would never feed himself as we always had to feed him. Believe he started feeding himself when he was maybe 7. Migdalia (Dee) we live with Jesus in our heart and lives!!!
