: I have an article for you today from Lena , who has a

: background as a medical nurse, but now teaches prevention.

: " Prevent Medical Errors From Killing You or Making You Ill "

: Is something you need to read. It speaks of looking into

: doctors background and the hospitals you may need to go to

: ahead of time. It is always better to be able to choose,

: rather than be forced into something.

:

: Many of us have had to have a medication at one time or

: another. She has some very good points about medication

: usage. Sometimes there is a mixup at the pharmacy and you do

: not get what you are supposed to.

:

: I have added an ionic magnesium liquid to the supplements on

: the site. Since about 90% to 95% of us in the U.S. are

: deficient, I have been looking for some exceptional

: minerals.

: It shows up in such things as bone spurs, chronic fatigue,

: fibromyalgia, insomnia and many other things. You will find

: them listed in the product section.

:

: Refer others and win a one-half hour health consultation

: from me. Value $50. I am having installed a program that

: will track how many people you refer to subscribe to Healthy

: Solutions Newsletter. I appreciate your efforts.

:

: The person who refers the most each month wins a free

: consultation. Or they may pass it on to a Family member or

: friend. Stay tuned for more information when it is ready. In

: the meantime, start your list of people that You think would

: be interested in receiving this newsletter.

:

: Wishing you all Health and Happiness,

: Prevent Medical Errors From Killing You or Making You Ill

: By Lena

:

: You are far more likely to die from a medical mistake than

: in a car crash, breast cancer, aids or gun shot!

:

: The following statements are came from the U.S. governments

: own website on " Medical Reduction Act of 2000 " Scary but

: true and is probably much worse as the government statistics

: are only from 50% of hospitals or doctors, by their own

: admission.

:

:

: One national study done outside the government parameters

: states, " That more than 100,000,000 Americans have

: experience with medical errors and 1 out 3 cases caused

: permanent harm, with half of the errors occurring in

: hospitals. "

:

: Reported May 17, 2001 in several newspapers and TV magazines

: across the U.S.; When polled it showed than only 1 in 7

: hospitals report mistakes so these statistics will more than

: likely be 7 times greater!

:

: Another large-scale study indicates that at least 44,000

: Americans may die each year as a result of medical error.

: Another study suggests that this number may be as high as

: 98,000 Americans still another reported 102,000. These do

: not include prescription deaths and illnesses!

:

: When using the lower estimate, deaths due to medical errors

: still exceed the number of deaths attributable to motor

: vehicle accidents (43,458), breast cancer (42,297), or AIDS

: (16,516) in 1999. The latest statistics available.

:

: One study found that about 2 out of every 100 hospital

: admissions involves a preventable adverse drug event. If

: these findings are generalized, these adverse drug events

: affecting inpatients cost $2,000,000,000 nationally.

:

: What can you do to prevent yourself from becoming a

: Statistic? It requires accepting responsibility for your own

: health care and not being dictated as to what will or won't

: be done for you...

:

: 1) PREVENTION: Use preventative steps to staying healthy and

: out of the doctors office!

:

: There are antibiotics that can be taken effectively for most

: illnesses that have no chemical components and very low risk

: to no side effects... Those are found in the book

: " Antibiotic Alternatives to Preventing Mega Bacteria. "

: http://www.envirdocs.com/books.htm?=health-doc . Along with

: questions to ask your doctor to determine if an antibiotic

: is necessary. Also questions to ask when given a

: prescription to determine your risks.

:

: Know your body and listen to it... Medical mishaps occur far

: More frequently than we would like to think or know but

: prevention can only happen if you are prepared for the

: inevitable... The more often you are treated the more likely

: you are to be a victim of a medical mistake!

:

:

: 2) CHOOSE THE CORRECT DOCTOR: When choosing a doctor, do not

: go by the personality but check on the reputation... Ask

: friends neighbors, acquaintances who they use and why... If

: you know someone who works at the

: local hospital start by getting their opinion on doctors.

: They can usually steer you away from the incompetent ones

: and on to the better ones! But don't rest on that alone! In

: order to get that answer you will need to ask the right

: questions as most nurses and hospital employees will not

: give you that information for fear of reprisal.

:

: Q. Who is your personal doctor?

: Q. Who has the least hospital patients?

: Q. What doctor(s) listen to your recommendations?

: Then go to http://www.consumerinfocentral.com search out

: doctors to see what you can do to prevent getting the wrong

: doctor.

:

: Don't be afraid to question a doctor's treatment protocol,

: diagnosis or prescription! A doctor who will get upset

: because you question him/her isn't the doctor you want

: treating you. A true caring and competent doctor will care

: about you and want to make sure you get the proper treatment

: and care and will not be upset with your concerns! Do not

: let them put off your

: questions, make them answer and if they refuse leave and

: never go back...

:

: In this HMO setting today that will be a bit difficult but

: if you report the doctors behavior to your insurance company

: they will usually find you another doctor immediately...

:

: IF YOU'RE REFERRED OUT FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEDURE in checking

: Out specialists... Find out how many times they have seen

: your problem? To find

: out what treatments get best results in certain ailments go

: to www.guidelines.gov for some of the answers. Do not

: expect

: all of them at this site but use it as a tool...

:

: 3) TAKE THE CORRECT PRESCRIPTION: When your doctor writes a

: prescription make sure you know what he is giving you and

: how to take it properly... Write it down before leaving the

: doctors office... Then when you pick it up at the pharmacy

: read the bottle and compare it to your written note...Check

: the name, dosage, amount and how you are to take it before

: leaving the pharmacy.

:

: My twenty years as a medical office nurse saw many

: prescriptions filled with the wrong medication and the

: patient failed to check it out before leaving the

: pharmacy... This mistake could be deadly or at best not help

: you and in some cases make you ill for life!

:

: 4) If you take more than one medication, NEVER MIX YOUR

: MEDICATIONS. Always keep your medications in the original

: bottle or an organizer with them clearly labeled... this

: will prevent your taking the wrong medication or possibly

: double dosing that can be fatal with certain medications.

:

: 5) If you must go to the doctor, TAKE ALL MEDICATIONS,

: OVER-THE-COUNTER, VITAMINS, ETC. to each office visit with

: your doctor and make sure they know what you are taking when

: writing you a treatment plan!

:

: 6) IF YOU HAVE TESTS DONE BE SURE TO CALL FOR THE RESULTS.

: One of the most common reasons for treatment failures lie in

: the fact that test results get lost routinely and patients

: never get the results and assume

: that everything was okay! Not always correct!

:

: 7) CHOOSE THE CORRECT HOSPITAL in order to get home

: alive...Check out the hospital you will be admitted to - way

: before you need a hospital... Find out what their

: accreditation is by going to www.jcaho.org or call (630)

: 792-5000. Interview the hospital!

:

: Follow all of the above and you are more likely to not be a

: statistic next year or next week! My wish for you is to be

: alive, healthy and happy to enjoy your dreams and not become

: a statistic in someone's study!

:

: According to Green Sokol, the author of Poisoning Our

: an undetectable film. And all the chemicals that you inhale

:

: YOU TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO TREAT YOU

: © Rhoberta Shaler, PhD

:

: So often we hear people ask the question, " Why does

: he/she/they treat me/us so badly? " . The honest answer, in

: most cases, is " Because you LET him, her or them! "

:

: If that seems too simple an answer, think of it this way.

: You make a date for lunch with someone new. They arrive

: twenty minutes late, citing traffic, office hold ups, the

: weather, their car or their kids. Of course, things do

: happen to detain even the best-intentioned person. You

: accept the apology and have a lovely lunch. The next time

: you have lunch with this person, they are thirty minutes

: late. Aha, there may be a pattern developing. What do you

: do?

:

: Unless you do not mind this behavior, you then have the

: opportunity to teach that person how to treat you. Good

: communication skills come into play. You can say something

: like, " One of the things I've found works for me is to be

: honest with people. I really enjoy your company and would

: like to continue meeting for lunch. I know things come up

: at the last minute and sometimes traffic can be horrendous.

: I'd like us to agree that either of us can leave if the

: other is more than fifteen minutes late? Would that be all

: right with you? " This clearly communicates what you need

: and want without ascribing blame. It builds relationship

: when you make clear agreements with people. Would it be all

: right with you if an employee came to work consistenly

: one-half hour late? No, there is an agreement about the

: starting time, isn't there? The same is true of our own

: time.

:

: One of my favorite quotes comes from . In his

: book, The Secret of Staying in Love, he wrote that " the

: genius of good communication is to be totally kind and

: totally honest at the same time. " I repeat this quote often

: to remind myself how to approach teaching people how to

: treat me. If I do not tell the truth about what works for

: me, I cannot expect another person to honor and respect it.

: Learning to teach people how to treat us takes practice.

:

: You may still have folks who have been in your life for a

: long

: time who take advantage of you, treat you poorly, or are

: angry, abusive or violent. A habit has been established and

: they may like it a lot! Consider telling them the truth

: about how their behavior affects you and what changes would

: make the relationship feel more respectful and caring for

: you. Be both honest and kind. Be prepared to have to

: repeat this information consistently over time. It is

: sometimes " inconvenient " for these folks to remember that

: you have now stated your preferences. They may not want to

: change. Holding these boundaries also requires attention on

: your part. Once you have asked for the change, you must

: insist on it or consider giving up the relationship. Both

: of these tasks take positive self-esteem and

: self-confidence.

:

: Relationships worth having are mutually respectful and

: responsive. Think about how you might like to apply these

: thoughts in your daily life.
