Hi,

we have a 5 yr old girl who is intelligent, inventive, and has a huge

sense of humor....but can be challenging, headstrong, and a handful to

put it mildly. She has been placed on the autism spectrum... " PDD-NOS "

with " Anxiety disorder " and " Mood Disorder " (the anxiety is definitely

in my family for generations, but the mood disorder is new to us as is

the ASD) She is at a good spot though and her asd is really not

noticed much anymore. She seems pretty " typical " now luckily.

So, since she was 2 she has been in EI. We have done it all...tons of

OT, social therapies, probiotics - high dose, high b6, magnesium, and

more. She " woke up " after the probiotics. It was amazing actually.

She was on miralax (I know, I am on the mirlax forum too and we regret

giving it to her) for a while because of consistent constipation but we

figured out that the best probiotics took care of the problem until

recently. We went to the doc and he gave us " Sorbitol. " We decided to

take a break from the pro-B's cause she has been on them a while, they

were not helping the constipation anymore, and they are expensive.

(Kirkman's) Well, we cannot figure out what is going on now... because

a few different things have changed. She is on Celexa and the doc

increased that slowly too recently.

She has never really had the " hand flaps " like ASD kids usually have.

However, in the past few days she has started hand flapping! What we

have gathered from what she has told us is that she flaps when something

is too much for her sensory-wise. For instance, if she is eating yogurt

and it is cold in her mouth, she flaps because it is cold and flapping

her arms makes it better somehow. Very strange. But, since we have

never really seen her to the typical autism spectrum arm flaps, we

thought we should mention it. (she has also been a bit hyper and

irritable at times) There are 4 possibilities that we can think that

might be causing this:

1. Increasing the Celexa

2. We stopped her high dose probiotics about 5-6 days ago.

3. She started Sorbitol about 5 days ago for constipation.

4. This is just another stage and her sensory issues are flaring in a

new way.

THANK YOU!

Angi
