Guest guest
Janel, every day you can start fresh. Once you do it, you'll be SOOOO glad you did! What I usually do when the last thing I want to do is work out, is start bargaining with myself. I get my act together to get to the car and if really am dreading the workout, I say, okay. Jump on a cardio machine and do only 10 minutes...just 10 minutes! Then, of course, once I'm there and on a machine, I'm all into it and I do a full-good cardio and then I'm EXTRA proud of myself because I really didn't want to do it, but gave it my best effort despite that. The hardest thing in the world is getting back into it after a hiatus, but you will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo happy once you're back into it. Seriously. Just give it one day at a time! Good luck! Guest guest
Thanks for the support everyone!! I'm upset I missed the cardio, but I can't wait until tomorrow's arm workout! Still sore from the beginning of the week, but can't wait to keep going! Janel > > > > I just started back on BFL (I've been working out, but not doing > > BFL). Guest guest
--Hi Ann In my short time on this list, you have given encouragement and support to all of us many many times. Now it's your turn to GET some support!!!! You have done absolutely nothing that can't be turned around starting NOW!!!!! What have you told myself and others many times: " Pamper yourself, listen to music, take a walk, rent a video; get a massage " ( well maybe you never told anyone about the massage but I'm suggesting it!!!!) You already have shown in recent months that you can and did change your routine, your eating, your lifestyle around. May I suggest that you make a list of action steps that you can take for the rest of this day and evening. then check in later with the group. You have been there for this group and we are here with open arms for you!!!! That's why it's important to plan your meals ahead of time, and then stick to that plan! Grabbing meals and snacks on the go always leads to trouble, especially when the only snacks around are sugary or fatty ones.

Actually trying to stick with my plan got me in trouble this time since I was away from home longer than expected. It got home late and ravenous and ate my sandwich and kept eating! I should have taken a snack for the road in case I was delayed. Ann
Guest guest
Aww.......did you get it bad? well...not that there is any way to hurt your ankle good. But you know what I mean. Hopefully you just sprained it. My son's girlfriends hand looked horrible after the car wreck. We thought sure she had broke it but it just just sprained. So maybe after a few days it will get better. Better not rush back into the exercise too soon(like tomorrow for example:) ) Better to give it a little bit to heal. > Well, I hurt my ankle. Guest guest
So we’re dealing with a bit of a nightmare. First of all, we’re juggling medications around. He was taking Risperidone for aggression, etc… and you know what, it worked REALLY well. We’d seen huge improvements in so many areas. But a big concern was the weight gain. He’d moved into the “overweight” BMI, and we weren’t comfortable with the rate of gain. So we decided to take him off the Risperidone, despite positive results. Sigh. We have now put him on Clonidine (anyone have experience?). He hasn’t been on it for a week yet, and he’s still only on the lower dose… goes up to .5 on Wednesday. We’ve seen a huge return in the aggressive behavior Today at school, he went to the bathroom (unsupervised, because previous to this incident, there hadn’t been any issues). He said he did his business, and went to wash his hands (YAY!). He noticed (haha, so Aspie) that there was a screw missing on one of the taps. So he fiddled with the tap, and was searching for the screw. A child from grade 1 came into the bathroom (my other son’s classmate, so knows him). This other child asked what he was doing, and said looking for a screw. So the other boy went into the stall to do his business. While he was in there, went over to leave, and noticed the light switch on the wall, and was about to turn it off (while other child was IN the bathroom stall)… when other child came out. Now, not that I’m making excuses for my boy, but this other boy tends to be on the dramatic side (his mother would be the first to tell you that lol). He got in ’s face (ugh) and said “What were you going to do?”. At this point, we get a little fuzzy… tells me that he didn’t want to tell the other boy that he was going to turn off the light, for fear that he’d get into trouble. So instead (oh the logic, or lack thereof!) he panicked, says he “got scared”, and shoved this other boy into the wall, told him “in a yelling voice” to leave him alone, and went back to class. Sigh. Of course, gee thanks school, the principal had a chat with him about “not being mean” and “leaving the taps alone”. (completely USELESS follow up, IMO) As per our daysheet plan, that behavior resulted in 2 “zeros” For that period. 2 zeros means loss of two home priveliges. He did great the rest of the day though, and managed to get enough “3’s” to move two tokens over in class (so he still gets reinforcement for what he did GOOD). This system has really worked VERY well for us. And to be honest, since I started this program with the school, has had two zeros. Total. Now, in one day, we’ve gone up to four. I am trying to be patient with this new medication, and give it time to work… but I have such a hard time when I KNOW things can be better… and now we’re sliding backwards. Sigh. Anyway, let me know if you’ve had experience with Clonidine, and if it takes time to fully work. And thanks for letting me whine =)
Guest guest
Hi , My NT son has had Clonidine, but it was used for sleep, prescribed by our Psychiatrist, He said it does make him drowsy and he will only use it if he is having a real bad night of not sleeping ( sorry not much help here). My AS kido uses the Risperdone for aggression as well, I like this best for him, but we have not had a lot of weight gain, our Dr. does watch for that. I have been watching what my son eats and will encourage fruits and low fat yogurts when he wants to snack vs. the junk food he would rather have. Another issue that might help is working on your son's social skills, and if you already are working on social skills I would definitely work on social stories on how to talk with friends for when your son in not sure how to respond. When you described in the situation, it seems like he is stuck with what to say when asked by his friend what he was going to do. So maybe just lack of social skills Vs. lack of logic. My son also had a bathroom incident a few months ago that could have ended badly, luckily it did not. Due to my child's lack of social skills, his bathroom etiquette is not up to par, he walked into the restroom at school and there where a couple of boys standing at the urinal doing their business, my son walked up to one boy and put his hands on the boys shoulders from behind and started shaking the kid from side to side, not a good idea at all for many different reasons, my son is lucky that the kid was more freaked out than mad, I am thinking if this was at the high school level, my son would have been punched in the face for sure. We have been definitely working on social stories for the public restroom.
