We have a dog I rescued that I am owner training to be a

Service Dog for my son. While we both have taught her some tasks that have

been helpful for him, she has also figured out things he needs on her own. She

truly is his best friend and would choose to be with her over anything else,

and it’s clear why.

I just wanted to share some info. After applying to some

professional Service Dog companies, I decided I needed the dog sooner than we

were able to get one, and I worked closely with a fantastic rescuer who really

helped me pick the right dog.

We received a $500 grant (that does not beet to be paid

back) from the Easter Seals. You can apply every year! They also have a

larger grant that’s a mini loan, which does need to be paid back. They

are for “Assistive Technology” Please let me know if you need help

with the application.

This is the website I got most of my “assistive

technology” http://www.servicedoghouse.com/

Here is a list of task we are working on: http://www.psychdog.org/tasks.html

This is a professional Therapy Dog training site: http://www.tdi-dog.org/ (if you wanted to

certify as a Therapy Dog vs Service Dog)

This is a professional Service Dog website if you want to

apply for a dog: http://www.4pawsforability.org/

(There are many of these, this is the first one I thought of) There are two

types of services. You can apply, be accepted and pay the $15k or so and there

are some if you qualify, you receive the dog free of charge. I am unsure which

one Paws is.

This is the other professional Service Dog website I know

of. http://www.cci.org/site/c.cdKGIRNqEmG/b.3978475/k.3F1C/Canine_Companions_for_Independence.htm
