Guest guest
Have a child with AS and ODD? I really need some support right now. This child of mine is driving me crazy! Yesterday had a neighbor boy over because of the superbowl (he didn't actually WATCH the game, but he played his gameboy near the TV so it was LIKE he was watching) I think having so much stimulation overwhelmed him, but he was able to hold it together while his company was over. Then as soon as his buddy left my house got the " wild " look in his eye. He started ripping up one of his sisters books because he was bored. When asked to go calm down in his room he began purposely stomping on the floor (we have neighbors below us). Next thing I know he is throwing all of his toys out of his room and into my hallway. His sister who has quite a sassy mouth at times said something to him and he kicked her in the stomach. I don't know what to do when he gets like this anymore. Restraining him is out of the question because he is over five feet tall and 106 lbs. I am only five foot two. Calling the cops is out because they always roll their eyes at me and remind me that hes " Your child, your problem. " There is no reasoning with him when hes like this. His eyes go completely blank and he is able to process NOTHING. Consequences don't work. Even taking away his one true love, video games, does not work. I am scared of him sometimes and I am especially afraid for my daughter. I am also worried he is going to get us kicked out of our apartment. We just moved here in November and the neighbors hate us. If I leave him home when I go grocery shopping he trashes the house and goes through my stuff. If I take him with me he yells at me the whole time about how he is too tired to walk that far (it's only two blocks)and then in the store itself he doesn't look where he is going and bumps into people and blocks aisles. I feel like my whole life is spinning out of control right now and I really just need a break but nobody except my drug addicted ex sister in law is willing to watch him. I hate to say it, but I can't wait for summer time. I am going to send him to as many sleep away summer camps as possible. I would send him to a boarding school or therapeutic group home but I have bad credit and low income. His biological father lives clear across the country and is having serious problems with his new marriage, and my husband is in prison for the next three years so I really am doing this all on my own. I contacted child protective services for help and they decided they do not know how to assist us. They said they can't do anything since no child is being abused. (they don't give a sh*t that my daughter gets hit by her brother) Mental Health has told me they have no advice for me since they are not equipped to deal with people on the autism spectrum, and the local Regional Center no longer has funding to help high functioning children. His therapist has been working with children for over 25 years and has never had such a hard time making a connection with a client. When she walks in the door for their weekly session he says " Oh God, it's my stupid counselor. I'm busy and you want to make me stop what I'm doing. I hate stupid freakin counseling. What a waste of my time " Now he MUST have some sort of a filter on his mouth, because at 12 years old I have still never heard him actually cuss, but other than that he just says whatever is on his mind. The other day my mother stopped by for a moment. My mother has early stage alzheimers and is bi polar. My son shouts " oh god its my psycho granny here to spew her nonsense " . Ok like WHO SAYS STUFF LIKE THAT ABOUT AND IN FRONT OF GRANDMA?????? It seems like both his ODD and his AS are getting more severe as he gets older. I immagine puberty isn't helping much. Anyways, sorry for this long long rant, but I am hoping to find just one person out there who can relate or who has some magic solution or valuable suggestions.
