Guest guest
I took spinning classes about 7 years ago, and they are a great workout. They really get your heart pumpin'. This is the best " cycling " workout without getting oun a bike to go for a ride. I really made some great progress physically while taking these classes. The only thing I would say about these classes working into BFL is that most teachers don't really follow an " interval " training as set-up in BFL. I would check on the format of the class, and the length in time. Around here the classes seem to last around 45 minutes. I haven't checked on the format of the classes yet, but I am hoping to work them into my cardio program somehow. Here's me $.13.... Guest guest
I agree that they are a really good workout. Especially if the music is pumping and you forget how long you've been peddling and sweating. I took one class and enjoyed the intensity and the variety. This was a few years ago and I was too shy to approach the instructor and let her know I was new. The next day my wrists were killing me! The bikes have specific settings - so just make sure you have someone help you set it up. I was leaning way too far forward and putting too much weight on my hands. Otherwise, great workout! Guest guest
I miss spinning so much - I can't make the classes now I'm teaching. But an hour of spinnig was definitely intense enough to replace a 20 minute cardio session. That class made me work! Fiona Young-Brown Kentish Maid Candles www.kentishmaidcandles.com <http://www.kentishmaidcandles.com/> What would life be if we had not courage to attempt anything - Van Gogh. -----Original Message----- Hi guys, Just took my first spinning class and wondering what everyone thought of this class as cardio--is it more like just an extra thing or do you think its intense enough to be one of our weekly sessions? I found it challenging and I was certainly working hard but still thinking of doing my three 20 min sessions this week. Just wondering what everyone thought. Thanks
Guest guest
I used to do these about 4 times a week when I lost weight the first time. Those classes changed the shape of my butt!! I would do them again but the only classes on base are 6 am and 11:30 am...neither work for me Those spinning clases are the bomb...I miss them...very challenging! > Hi guys, > Just took my first spinning class and wondering what everyone thought > of this class as cardio--is it more like just an extra thing or do you > think its intense enough to be one of our weekly sessions? Guest guest
Oh my, Spinning is so hard, there's no way it couldn't work! I can't even get through 25 minutes without feeling like I'm dying. I need to start going to that again... Thanks for the reminder! > Hi guys, > Just took my first spinning class and wondering what everyone thought > of this class as cardio--is it more like just an extra thing or do you > think its intense enough to be one of our weekly sessions? Guest guest
funny you should say that- I took my first spinning class 2 weeks ago, and thought it was good enough,-if you make it so. It had levels of exceedingly higher intensity and repeatedly returning to a " base " pace. Plus it was a little longer than 20 minutes and sometimes I feel like I might need a little extra cardio per week. - AND, best of all it really breaks of the monotony! I loved it! > Hi guys, > Just took my first spinning class and wondering what everyone thought > of this class as cardio--is it more like just an extra thing or do you > think its intense enough to be one of our weekly sessions? Guest guest
I finally tried spinning. Can I just tell you all it is the hardest workout I have ever had in my life. This coming from a girl who almost kills herself every single HIIT 20 minutes on the treadmill. I didn't think there could ever be anything more treacherous.....WELL, THERE IS! I loved it so much on Sat. that I skipped Church and went back for the Sunday morning class. I practically felt like I was in church anyways cause I was praying for it to end the entire time!!!!!!!! If they offered it at my gym I would do it all week long.....I may have to become an instructor so they can offer the class more often. Try it if you get a chance!!! Guest guest
Spinning is wonderfull!! It is also adictive. I don't sweat with any other workout like I sweat while spinning. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend. Brett in LA > > > > I finally tried spinning. Can I just tell you all it is the hardest > > workout I have ever had in my life. Guest guest
Spinning is one of the best cardio work outs out there, and it is very difficult. More often than not, the lights are off during the class and the beauty is that you can work at your own pace. Unlike aerobics classes that are choreographed so that you pretty much have to do what everyone else is doing, in spinning you are doing what everyone else is, but at your own level. You decide at what resistance you have your bike and how fast you go. You're encouraged to push yourself, and believe me, you will, but there isn't that self-consciousness of trying to keep up if you're a beginner. I have done spinning for my HIIT because I can control my levels. Good luck! > > I've been wanting to take a spinning class for so long but OMG, they > look hard as heck and (as I've admitted b4) I can be a wimp if I let > myself... Guest guest
In spinning classes, are the bikes equipped for upper body too? The one I use at home is, and I try to gauge by RPM or by " theoretical calories burned per hour " There is no resistance adjustment but the harder you peddle, the more resistance you get. My question... should I be working out with the upper body like that, after I've just done an upper body strength work out the day before? Guest guest
I like the endurance rides too. I don't like getting out of the saddle all of the time and am not sure how safe the jump drills are on the knees for most people, and that's not what you do on a real bike anyway for the most part. Glad you enjoyed the class, Judy!

Guest guest
It depends on the situation! Spinning might be good, it might mean your child now registers the sensation and enjoys it, it may mean your child has a deep need for vestibular/sensory input, it could mean a lack of stimulation in another area, there are other reasons. Children stim (spin, rub hands, poke eyes, flap hands, vocalize, whatever) because it fulfills a need. That doesn't mean it's normal or acceptable, but it is a sign. For a child who never moved much before, spinning is a wonderful sign that the sensory system is starting to work. For a child who moves too much, spinning may be a sign that something is out of whack, over-done, etc. My advice would be to ask your therapist what to do. I wouldn't want to you squealch (is that a word?) the behavior if it is a good behavior to have. Does that make sense? (btw, I am a therapist) You have to look at the whole situation, not just one behavior. HTH!
Guest guest
Thanks for the reminder! My son does the spinning, but we know its yeast related becuase of other accompanying (sp?) behaviors like the uncontrollable giggles and the brewery smelling BMs. But he flaps when stressed and scripts during pretend play. As his conversational skills have improved, he scripts less and basically we only see it when we're playing and its in contezt. Karla > > It depends on the situation! Guest guest
Hi all, I haven't posted in a long time or even been reading posts in a while, things have been pretty busy lately. I'm gonna try and change that. Anyway, I'm having one of those mornings, no where to vent, no one else really gets it, but is quick to find a way for it to be my fault. My fault, because I don't provide enough structure, my fault because I don't medicate him, my fault becase we homeschool, etc. So, what set me off? I homeschool our son and his distractability is huge. I tell him what he's doing next, tell him to get his materials and 5 min later, where is he? He's spinning in circles in the room where his materials are kept. If I don't set a timer and say meet me here w/ your materials in 3min and hand him the timer I loose him! I don't want to put him on ADD meds, but I'm having a hard time keeping him focussed moving from one thing to the next. Once he gets started he focuses great, it's the transitions and getting started that I'm needing some help with. Any ideas? He is 9 and we are having him tested for dyslexia on Friday.
