PLRB To Revisit Texas For Mold Confab

NU Online News Service, March 8, 10:28 a.m. EST-The Property Loss Research

Bureau announced it is venturing " deep into the heart of mold country " to

hold a second Mold Symposium in Texas.

Their event, titled " PLRB National Mold Symposium II: A Current Perspective

on an Evolving Issue, " is scheduled for May 6 and 7 at Marriott Rivercenter

in San . A similar meeting was held last October.

Texas has been notorious in the insurance community as a hotbed of mold

damage claims--ever since a jury in the state delivered a $32 million

verdict against Farmers Insurance Group in a case involving treatment of a

mold damage claim.

The PLRB said the symposium will be designed along the same lines as the

first one, with the addition of nine new breakout sessions.

Featured general session speakers include:

.. ph A. Gerber, a senior partner for the law firm Cozen O'Connor, on the

changing legal landscape and its trends, which suggest an increasing

frequency of mold-related claims issues.

.. A. Rice of Colorado State University will discuss common

misconceptions about mold.

The symposium also will include a new special case study. Entitled " Anatomy

of a Mold Claim Going South, " it will feature experts who lead participants

through the key decision points in adjusting a water loss that degenerates

into a mold-related claim. A " Post Mortem " will then dissect the fact

scenario leading to this avoidable outcome.

Other scheduled sessions will examine what causes mold, remediation

techniques and what to do if a participant's company is named as a party to

mold litigation.

Companies specializing in restoration and other aspects of mold mitigation

and remediation will exhibit displays at the symposium.

Registration is free for PLRB/LIRB insurance company members, $350 for

affiliate members and $500 for non-member companies.

Additional information about the symposium can be found at

http://www.plrb.org/seminars.cfm.

The PLRB, based in Downers Grove, Ill., is affiliated with the Alliance of

American Insurers.
