Guest guest
NO e and Pt can be just as you described. It can help some and not others. The injections are good in the joints! Ask for one of those after your MRI. I have gone about 4 times now and so far it has not helped one bit. I had to laugh after the 1st visit the next day when I saw him, he asked me if I felt better? I have had this pain going on 5 months now and you want to know if I feel better after having done 30 minutes worth of extremely low impact exercise?????? Even after 4 visits I feel no better than the day I walked in there. Also, I asked him if I could possibly have a herniated disc in my neck. He doesn't think so (this kid is a PT but all of about 23 years old) because he moved my neck in different positions and said " well if you had a herniated disc it would hurt when I go like this " and because it didn't hurt...he didn't think I have one. I haven't had an MRI yet, but to me...it feels like one. Do you know if you necessarily have to be in excruciating pain to have a herniated disc? thanks JB
Guest guest
Hello There. I have a bone spur in my neck which made my left arm hurt so bad...They wanted to do an operation from the front..It was caused from reaching up and unloading milk crates I had tilted my neck back so many times it set the bone spur off..So the doctor said ..So I started leaning my head done for a month everyday, like touching my chin to my chest..To open up the neck spine..After a month off work it finaly went away..To this day I watch my head that I keep it stationary...This is true... I fear the day if it ever comes back that I will have to have this operation! All the best to you > > > Did Physical Therapy work for any of you with neck problems? Guest guest
Hi JB, Neck problems can be complicated. It is best to get a good diagnosis first. What did the doctor who prescribed the PT say? Rochelle
Guest guest
The Doctor who prescribed the PT is not a specialist, just a regular general MD. I feel like he really didn't have a clue as to what was wrong, but they do the general line of oral inflammatories and then PT. I am on my way to PT this morning, I am going to tell the PT who I see that this is not working for me and I am giving up on it. :-( e Re:Physical Therapy? Hi JB, Neck problems can be complicated. I went in to the next appointment to tell the physical therapist thank you very much, but you know how you said not to do it if it caused me pain? It causes me pain. In fact, it aggravates my pain. We ended the physical therapy at that time. Then the doctor sent me to the next step, to consult for epidural steroid injections. This took another 3 or 4 months. They did help. The pain came back and finally I had 3 surgeries in 3 weeks. Six months later, I attempted my second try at Physical Therapy. This time it was a life saver. I had been horizontal for 18 months. I needed PT to get up and moving again. Then the exercises helped hold up my neck. So physical therapy can be helpful or not, and it is an important part of the process that you feed back what is happening when you do it. in OR

Guest guest
I have a bone spur in my neck..And I was careful not to move it..And I am lucky its been 11 years and I haven`t had a flare up..I just monitered myself not to bend my neck back , the best for me was looking downwards..as to keep the s[ine digets open...But thats me ..I had an MRI which showed everytime I bent my neck up I closed it on the nerve..So thats just me..Everyone is different. Guest guest
I am concerned about my 9 year old sons physical abilities. He has never been able to do a somersault......he is way to stiff. He cannot move on the monkey bars and hanging there is a struggle. He got on top of them the other day and could not get down.......I had to help him down. I worry this will happen at school and he will get hurt trying to get down. He does ride a bike, but you would think it is torture. I tried to get him to go around the block and he whined the entire time! About half way around he got off saying he couldn't got any further as the bike hurt his butt! He constantly complains about pain. Recently it has been his legs. He claims they hurt. Quite often it is when he does not want to do something, so I do wonder if this is just a game he is playing. However, there are times when he complains and I don't see a motive. He has always been very cautious.....never jumped around on things. He has always tired easily and has always ran funny. When I watched him at his schools carnival, the little kids were running circles around him. He is very slow and struggles to do everything. They had a big blow up slide and he could not even get up without help. I did not see anyone else have trouble and many of the kids were 4-5!! When he does participate in something (like in gym class), he tends to fall or hurt himself. If a ball gets thrown at him it will almost for sure bend his wrist or finger! Do others have these issues? Should I have him in therapy? What kind?
Guest guest
You probably want to ask the school to provide Adapted PE to your son. In Adapted PE they help kids who are less coordinated catch up on their basic playground skills. My son had Adapted PE and he loved it. They did anything from riding around on body scooters to dribbling a ball to playing basketball (or whatever sport that regular gym class was doing.) Sometimes Adapted PE was totally separate from gym class and other times it was incorporated into gym class (the Adapted PE teacher would help my son during the class). Guest guest
I would request an occupational therapy consult and physical therapy consult, they could both potentially help. I also love the idea of the adapted PE!! The other thing I was going to say is that my NT 8yr old complains of pains in her arms and legs as well, I remember having them as a child and our doctors always called them growing pains!CarolynSent from my iPadOn Mar 22, 2011, at 9:57 PM, "Catcelia" <c2cats@...> wrote: You probably want to ask the school to provide Adapted PE to your son. Guest guest
this may not work where you live, but try swimming, my son was the same way and swimming in warm water seemed to help the complaints, pain and he actually started to like it. they have a play gym in the pool with water jets, buckets and such and a really big slide at the other end of the pool. at least he is getting some exercise walking up all those stairs to come down the slide and he will do it over and over again. My 10 yr old daughter has similar issues. She has not mastered the monkey bars, riding a bike or many gross motor skills other 10 yr olds can do. She tires very easily which makes it hard to do family activities. When we do anything physical she complains about leg pain when she is tired and many times the next day. We go through a lot of Motrin for leg pains and headaches. We have done OT, but never PT. My daughter is considered to have "low tone" so I don't expect any of those issues to completely resolve. Guest guest
Is he on medications? Also is he growing through a growth spurt that can hurt his legs? id have his iron checked, also his d3. Does he like being outside in general or is it overwhelming? I would have him checked with a doctor and maybe referred for an evaluation. My daughter who has CP loves warm water therapy. I have seenin my daughter a big improvement at the age of 12-13 where shecan sustain longer bike rides. And in the summer swim more. My daughter has had OT and PT (up to the age of 7) and it helpedbut our OT made the point she only sees her once a week, wehave to work with our daughter every day. Little by little I think you will see improvement if youwork on it little at a time, and not so much to cause a meltdown. Pam >> I am concerned about my 9 year old sons physical abilities. Guest guest
I agree with Roxanna. However, my ds, now 15, was assessed by OT's and they found him " within normal limits " . He had poor stamina, little core strength and hated PE at school. We have had him working with The Sensation Nation, in northern CA, which is an OT based group for special need kids. They work one on one each week and use a variety of methods and fun ways to keep the kids engaged. He has blossomed over the past 18 months with them. He enjoys PE, has passed the 9th grade PE testing required in CA, and complains much less. He also gets regular massages. That has helped with his leg pain and general muscle tone. Heat packs at night help with " growing Pains " which have struck both my kids throughout their childhood, but seems to have settled in the past few years. Hope you can find a similar group of professionals in your area.
