Why the head down at school

I was reading Miriam's post and her success with back to school. Read the part

about her son not putting his head down as much. My son's teacher tells me he

puts his head down, he did it a lot last year. Just starting this year.

When asked about it, he has no idea why. He may use an excuse to say he is

tires..but he really isn't.

He may be bored/overwhelmed...etc.

How did you figure out the " why " of the head down and how do you discuss it with

your child?
