Guest guest
Hi all, I have Hypothyroidism and have been taking Synthroid for years before noticing any problems related to PA or P other than dry skin and fatigue. The fatigue goes with thyroid problems whether it is Hypo or Hyper and then we have the added fatigue with our PA. My dosage of Synthroid has been increased since having PA. I used to have a different general MD until this past year that treated the thyroid problem. He was under the impression that I was not taking my med because the labwork didn't look right. I had to go through a CAT Scan to satisfy him and he was looking for a pituitary tumor that would have given the same results if I was taking my med correctly. I always take my med and I don't have a tumor. I do have a different doctor now because that one lost his medical license for drug abuse plus he had a drinking problem. The new general MD listens to me and does follow up on the problems. I was having difficulty swollowing just before being diagnosed with PA and still have a little bit of problem with it now as small pills get stuck in my throat on the way down. This has improved with an increase in dosage. My thyroid gland was swelling on the inside but has decreased in size with proper dosing. The old MD only did labs for thyroid once each year even though I told him of my problems. He acted like it was nothing. The new one follows up every three months just to monitor for any problems even if I don't think I have any. I'm not sure if I needed the increase in med due to just the change in thyroid and to control it or if the PA does play into it somehow and causes a need for higher dosing. Forgetfulness also is one of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism. Some of the group have mentioned the idea of a colon connection and PA. With Hypothyroidism you usually have constipation and with Hyperthyroidism you usually have diarrhea. I get both. Usually when I have diarrhea it is the next morning after I take MTX. If anyone wants other symptoms for either Hypo or Hyper I will respond with a comparison list from my MERCK manual or another medical source. Hope this helps some.
