Guest guest
Is your son speaking both languages? You said English in the home, but Kinder and daycare speak Japanese, does he speak Japanese in these situations or is it spoken to him? I have a couple of friends who have HF autism dx for their son's and both boy's are bilingual. Both parents report that each boy prefers to speak English but does understand the other language spoken. I would say if it does not cause issues in your son's communication than it is not a worry, hopefully your son will retain both languages and be bilingual, how beneficial to speak two languages, this will surely help him in his employment as an adult. I would say the language delay is mostly in the output. My experience with autism/Aspergers is that the output is what is difficult, the child must organize his thoughts in order to get the words to be spoken, this is hard. Even though my son can speak and understands he will do much better when he uses his fusion when answering a question. A big difference, he thoughts are more organized and his sentences are complete when using the fusion. Take care, Dawn T
