Guest guest
First, thank you ALL for the wonderful answers to my questions. I am really glad I found this group! My next question is this. My daughter's therapist is preparing a letter for the school board so that they will initiate official testing in the hopes of getting an IEP. WHAT exactly will that do for her at this point? She's 15, in the ninth grade, grades are decent, doesn't disrupt class, etc. She's really wanting to enter a specialized arts high school for 10th grade (which will require an audition), is it possible that an IEP will hurt her chances for that? Will the IEP specify that she needs certain things in order for her to be successful in school? Also, does anyone know of any local support groups? We are located in ville, FL. And.. how do you explain to a teen that she has this " thing " ? She's always known she was different... and we had she had enough of the NVLD traits (but again, not enough for a clinical diagnosis) that I felt comfortable with that....I have always told her that everyone learns differently, and it's just a matter of identifying the best way that you learn, and then getting the proper tools. Many thanks! Felicia
