Guest guest
Every time we put our dd on a trike or bike and she would hit a bump in the side walk she couldn't seem to peddle over it. She would just sit there. At times it almost seemed like there was a fear that I couldn't comprehend. She had training wheels on her bike and she was a tall 9 yr old,,,we knew that eventually she was going to out grown her bike and if she kept this up, she was never going to learn. So one day I told her to get on her bike and learn,,,we encouraged her in different ways, but at the same time, not drawing to much attention to it. Small goals like peddle five time, put feet down (needed to be very literal) and then take a break and have a popcicle. She built courage, self worth, got over a fear of falling, and it empowered herself to try something else that she had been afraid of and that was skating. We needed to help her feel "safe" and we could not give up. We geared our day towards "annie is going to ride her bike day". By the end of that day we were having to remind her to use her brakes.
